Selma Blair Returns to Acting Amid Tragic Drama

Selma Blair is back.

The actor who was famous for “Cruel Intentions” is set to appear in three upcoming films. One of these is the Israel-Hamas war drama titled “Stay Forte,” co-starring Judd Hirsch. Additionally, the brothers Mark and Michael Polish’s film, “There There,” is also on her list. Lastly, she will be featured in the supernatural thriller “Silent” which is directed by the duo Doron and Yoaz Paz.

Back in 2018, Blair revealed that she had multiple sclerosis, and during our conversation at the Elle Women in Hollywood event in November, she hinted at upcoming projects by mentioning, “I’ve been feeling much improved this past year and I’m back to work. So, there will be news about what I’m up to soon.

As a movie enthusiast, I’d like to share my thoughts on “Stay Forte,” a gripping film directed by the talented Israeli filmmaker Doron Eran. This captivating tale revolves around three protagonists – Alon Shamiriz, Yotam Haim, and Samer Tallaka – ordinary Israelis who found themselves in an extraordinary situation when they were taken hostage by Hamas during their October 7 attack in southern Israel.

In a statement, Blair expressed that this movie isn’t just a storyline; it’s an embodiment of human resilience and the ties that bind us during unfathomable hardships. She feels privileged to be involved in such a voyage, as it authentically portrays the multifaceted tapestry of Israeli society—individuals of various faiths grappling with the repercussions of conflict. Last year, Blair received criticism for her remarks regarding Islam, but later offered an apology for any unintentional hurt caused by a careless choice of words that she regrets deeply.

The film ‘Stay Forte’ was created by Omri Rose and Tomer Almagor, produced by Eran and Tomer Almagor themselves, and executive produced by Ron Zuckerman via Eran’s CinemaVeda, LTD, in collaboration with an American production company called Urban Tales Productions. Gabrielle Almagor took on the roles of casting director and executive producer.

Hirsch expressed his gratitude, stating, “I feel privileged to be involved in such a significant undertaking. It has been an incredibly emotional journey for me – one of the most impactful experiences throughout my life. Being able to collaborate with this brave group of filmmakers on telling this story globally means a great deal to me personally. I hold these courageous creators in the highest regard.

Eron highly commended Blair’s acting: “Selma delivers a remarkable depth and genuine portrayal in her character. This movie is more than just entertainment; it serves as an enlightening tribute to those who faced unbearable hardships. It emphasizes the importance of empathy and awareness when dealing with war.”

Or, more concisely:

Eron applauded Blair’s performance: “Selma delivers a profound, authentic portrayal in her role. The film is not just entertainment; it sheds light on the struggles of those who endured unimaginable hardships. It underscores the necessity of compassion and understanding during times of war.

In the movie “Silent,” Blair takes on the role of Skylar, a skilled sound designer who encounters and battles malevolent forces from the past as she works to restore an old, silent film, unleashing them in the process.

In “There There,” the story revolves around two long-lost twin brothers, who’ve been unaware of each other’s existence for four decades. This film represents a dual narrative, with Mark Polish handling the direction and narration of one twin’s tale, while Michael directs the other brother’s account. Remarkably, they didn’t reveal their work to one another until both were fully completed. In this movie, Blair portrays one of the brothers’ former romantic interests.

This upcoming movie will be the first time the brothers have worked together on a film since over ten years ago. Additionally, the cast features Gretchen Mol, Corbin Bernsen, and Shannyn Sossamon.

Blair is represented by Berlandi Nussbaum & Reitzas LLP, WME and Jill Fritzo PR.
