‘Den of Thieves 3’ in the Works at Lionsgate, Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. to Return

The production companies, Lionsgate, Tucker Tooley Entertainment, and G-BASE, have initiated the creation process for the third installment in the “Den of Thieves” series.

In North America, “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera” debuted as the top movie in theaters and has so far earned over $32 million domestically. The film became available for Premium Video On Demand viewing on Tuesday.

It’s likely that Gerard Butler and his production company, G-BASE, along with partner Alan Siegel, will be back for the third installment of this franchise. Lionsgate is currently discussing with writer-director Christian Gudegast about returning to pen and direct the movie. Additionally, it’s anticipated that O’Shea Jackson Jr. will join Butler in the cast.

Previously this month, Jackson Jr. expressed to EbMaster his desire for additional “Den of Thieves” productions soon. Speaking candidly, he aims to emulate Vin Diesel’s success and work with Gerard until he reaches 90. Quoting Ryan Reynolds, he says, “I want to collaborate with these guys as long as possible.” He has a strong family bond with the cast, and although he is eager to create more films, he doesn’t want to compromise the quality of what they’ve already achieved. This project took six or seven years to materialize; he hopes the next one won’t take as long. In essence, they will only proceed if it aligns with what made the franchise popular initially and if it feels genuinely right.

Under their collaboration, Tucker Tooley Entertainment – responsible for the initial film’s production and financing, as well as bringing the franchise to Lionsgate from STX – will now co-produce and jointly finance “Den of Thieves 3.” Tooley himself will produce this project under his own label, while Lionsgate will handle the distribution duties for the upcoming installment.

Tucker Tooley Entertainment is a business that finances and produces feature films and television shows, founded by Tucker Tooley and Greg Renker. This company has played a significant role in creating compelling narratives that resonate on both traditional movie screens and streaming platforms. Their films have earned over $2.6 billion globally at the box office.

During the span of ten months, starting from 2024 and extending into 2025, Tooley successively released a series of highly successful productions. These included Netflix’s top-rated film “The Deliverance” and Lionsgate’s theatrical release “Arthur the King,” starring Mark Wahlberg. Among his more recent projects are “Concrete Cowboy,” which debuted at No. 1 on Netflix, and “The United States vs Billie Holiday,” which garnered an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win for its lead actress, Andra Day. In the year 2025, Tooley’s documentary “Finding Satoshi” is scheduled to be released.

G-BASE, the film production company established by Butler and Siegel, has churned out more than 20 full-length movies since its launch in 2008. Among these are “Law Abiding Citizen,” the “Fallen” trilogy, “Greenland” and “Greenland: Migration,” “Plane,” and the eight-episode TV series “Paris Has Fallen,” produced for StudioCanal on Hulu. They’re currently preparing to film the second season of this popular series.
