‘Love Jones’ Stars Nia Long and Larenz Tate Set as American Black Film Festival Ambassadors (EXCLUSIVE)

Nia Long and Larenz Tate will serve as ambassadors for the 2025 American Black Film Festival

This year’s American Black Film Festival (ABFF), sponsored by Nice Crowd, is set to take place in Miami Beach from June 11th to the 15th. The festival will continue online on ABFF PLAY from June 16th to the 23rd.

As representatives for “Love Jones,” its stars will assist in promoting the festival’s objective – highlighting Black content and offering chances for artists of color to thrive within the film and television industry. Furthermore, ABFF has arranged a special screening titled “ABFF Remembers: Love Jones” – a commemorative discussion, musical tribute, and celebration of the movie’s legacy. Stars Long and Tate will reunite to share memories from the film’s production, their on-set experiences, and their lasting friendship.

Jeff and Nicole Friday, founders of Nice Crowd, expressed their excitement about the actors’ participation, stating that their work in ‘Love Jones’ is still iconic and they have been pioneers in the industry for a long time. They added that the actors’ impact on the mission of ABFF has been immense, tracing back to the festival’s beginnings in Acapulco during the late 90s. They consider them as cherished friends.

Indeed, Jeff Friday found the motivation to establish the ABFF (previously known as the Acapulco Black Film Festival) following his viewing of “Love Jones” at a different film event. Ever since its debut in 1997, the ABFF has been committed to upholding Friday’s belief that Black artists should receive equal opportunities as their counterparts within mainstream media.

Long and Tate are now among an illustrious group of celebrities who have represented this festival as ambassadors, including Issa Rae, Lena Waithe, Halle Berry, Magic Johnson, Anthony Mackie, Common, Taye Diggs, Taraji P. Henson, Mary J. Blige, Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi (Lala), Regina Hall, Morris Chestnut, Omari Hardwick, Idris Elba, Jay Ellis, and the late John Singleton.

The individual being referred to is an accomplished actor, having won the NAACP Image Award four times, and has earned a Grammy nomination for performance. Known for her role in Lionsgate’s “Michael,” the eagerly awaited biopic about Michael Jackson, she has also been chosen to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her forthcoming memoir is set to be published by Gallery Books.

Currently, actor Tate plays the role of Congressman Tate in “Power Book II: Ghost” on Starz. His filmography boasts titles such as “Menace II Society,” “Dead Presidents,” “Crash,” and “Girls Trip.” Beyond his acting career, Tate is a businessman who co-founded TateMen Entertainment alongside his brothers. This company focuses on creating and producing content that spotlights Black narratives. Under their wing, the popular podcast “Bronzeville” was born, amassing over 20 million downloads.
