Lena Dunham’s Netflix Series ‘Too Much’ Promises Hilarious Chaos and Unexpected Twists!

Lena Dunham is teaming up with Netflix on a fresh collaboration prior to the debut of her first series for them, titled “Too Much.

At the Netflix event in London on Wednesday, Lena Dunham announced that her production company, Good Thing Going, will carry on producing serialized shows exclusively for Netflix as part of a new agreement. The scripted comedy series “Too Much” is set to debut this year and was created before the partnership. A sneak peek at the show was shown, highlighting Megan Stalter (“Hacks”) as the lead character.

Bringing ‘Too Much’ to fruition alongside Netflix has been a long-held aspiration; their faith, backing, and artistic liberty are hard to come by. My partner in production, Michael P. Cohen, and I are brimming with excitement as we embark on the next stage of Good Thing Going, with Netflix as our base. This platform values and nurtures artists, providing us with a plethora of beloved shows that we cherish as viewers. Since our initial discussions with the Netflix team, we’ve found ourselves in agreement regarding our aim to reinterpret conventional genres while adding a unique twist. We look forward to collaborating not just within the U.S. and the U.K., but also globally, sharing diverse stories and creating captivating new realms.

Speaking about it, Jinny Howe, Netflix’s drama series vice president, stated: “Lena’s unique storytelling approach has reshaped narrative for today’s generation. She’s an innovative force, skillfully crafting intricate and profound narratives that are both thought-provoking and enjoyable. We eagerly anticipate bringing more of Lena’s relatable stories to viewers.

In “Too Much,” Dunham assumes multiple roles as creator, writer, director, and executive producer. As per its summary, the show revolves around Jessica (played by Megan Stalter), a New Yorker in her mid-30s who’s grappling with the aftermath of a relationship she believed would last an eternity, pushing everyone away in the process. With each city block reminding her of her missteps, she decides to move to London, seeking a life of solitude akin to the Bronte sisters. However, her plans for isolation are disrupted when she encounters Felix (portrayed by Will Sharpe) – a character brimming with potential warning signs. Despite their unconventional bond causing more complications than solutions, it proves hard for them to overlook. The question now is: do Americans and Brits truly understand each other’s language?

During a Q&A session, I shared that my own journey of moving to London sparked the idea for our show. I collaborated on it with my husband, Luis Felber, who is not only an executive producer but also a major reason why I chose to stay in this country – aside from the charm of crumpets and rain!

Initially, Jessica and Felix, along with the other characters, had sparked ideas drawn from my personal experiences, but once I chose the actors to play them… It’s like giving birth to a child and then watching it grow under the care of an actor. That’s the most thrilling and creative aspect, observing where they develop the character in ways I never thought possible.

While it’s exciting to learn that she’s part of the show, I personally found myself drawn more to Lena Dunham’s character, Jessica, as she takes center stage in this series.

What I adore about Meg is her genuine warmth, openness, and that distinct Midwestern appeal that instantly endears her to others. Even when she’s being mischievous, overly dramatic, or making well-intentioned blunders, you find yourself supporting her. And this quality was exactly what we required for the part we were casting.
