As a festival supporter, I can tell you that our themes delve into deeply personal and profound questions about life and existence, as well as broader societal and global concerns. We express these topics through an array of documentary styles and creative methodologies, ensuring a richly diverse presentation.
Given our highly divided society, constantly influenced by the continuous news loop and false information, it’s crucial now more than ever to present complex narratives, varied viewpoints, and fresh voices to our audience,” Mara Gourd-Mercado, head of industry and training, emphasized.
We’re thrilled to announce that our 2025 CPH:FORUM lineup represents a specific moment in history, and we feel privileged that these talented filmmakers have chosen us to showcase their works globally. This year, we aim to create an environment fostering interaction and discourse – a platform that underscores the impact of documentaries.
I’m excited to share that we’ve unveiled a fresh segment at our forum, CPH:ROUGHCUT. This new area will highlight an assortment of five projects nearing completion, all eyeing their debut in 2025. We’re on the hunt for distribution, sales, buyers, festival premieres, and various exhibition opportunities. On March 24, the chosen teams will offer a sneak peek into their upcoming films by presenting key scenes from their works-in-progress. This update marks the replacement of our previous work-in-progress platform, CPH:WIP.
For four consecutive years, CPH:DOX, IMS (International Media Support), and EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs) have collaborated to host the co-production development training program called CHANGE. This program focuses on projects from Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. After two workshops in Moldova, this six-month long program will conclude with a workshop in Copenhagen, jointly organized with the National Film School of Denmark. The culmination of the program will be an exhibition of the eight selected projects at the CHANGE pitch session on March 24th.
For the first time, CPH:FORUM is unveiling the Sandbox Films Science Pitch Prize, a distinction given to an exceptional science documentary project showcased at CPH:FORUM. The selected project stands out for its innovative approach within the genre, artistic quality, and dedication to inclusivity. The victorious filmmakers will be granted a $25,000 cash prize and assistance from Sandbox Films to bring their work to completion.
CPH:FORUM is teaming up with Al Jazeera Documentary Channel to present the Al Jazeera Documentary Channel Collaborative Production Prize worth 10,000 euros. This award is for a CPH:FORUM project that focuses on pressing issues of the present day.
Once again, CPH:FORUM will distribute two prestigious awards – the Eurimages Innovation Award and the Outreach Award – in 202x. These accolades recognize and honor groundbreaking and unconventional film projects at various stages of production by creative filmmakers and visual artists.
The €20,000 Innovation Award will be granted to a unique project currently in development, with the intention of fostering international collaboration. The Outreach Award, valued at €30,000, will be bestowed upon an independent production company or director for a completed or post-production project that aims to captivate global audiences and draw attention to experimental films. Projects from CPH:FORUM, CPH:ROUGHCUT, and CPH:LAB are all eligible for these awards.
Furthermore, the “Rise and Shine” Award worth €3,000 will be given to the most promising pitch project with international potential that does not currently have a sales agent. Additionally, the Unifrance/Titrafilm Doc Award, providing approximately €5,500 in benefits, will be granted to the best French production or co-production presented.
The prizes will be distributed during the CPH:INDUSTRY Awards Ceremony, scheduled for March 27, at the Social Cinema within Kunsthal Charlottenborg.
The chosen projects will be showcased to established figures in film financing, which include representatives from streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Europe; broadcasters such as ARTE, ZDF, VPRO, BBC, National Geographic, POV, Al Jazeera, and DR; film studios including TIME Studios, Sky Studios, Concordia Studio, Fremantle, and Sandbox Films; distributors like Fifth Season and IMAX; art establishments such as Tate Modern and the Museum of Moving Image; as well as funds and foundations such as Field of Vision, Impact Partners, Ford Foundation, Sundance Institute, Doc Society, Chicken and Egg Pictures, Catapult, and The Whickers.
