As a cinephile eagerly anticipating the next chapter, I’m thrilled to share that the illustrious Lesley Manville and Tim McMullan are set to reprise their roles in “Marble Hall Murders,” the concluding piece of Anthony Horowitz’s Susan Ryeland mystery trilogy. This captivating series, which has secured its place on our screens courtesy of the BBC and Masterpiece on PBS, promises to deliver another suspenseful tale that will undoubtedly leave us on the edge of our seats.
The upcoming production is a follow-up to the hits “Moonflower Murders” and “Magpie Murders,” as Eleventh Hour Films joins forces with Salt Films for broadcast on PBS Masterpiece and the BBC. Filming will take place in March, covering Dublin, Corfu, and London locations.
In the role of Susan Ryeland, a book editor with an unusual talent for stumbling upon murder mysteries, Manville is back. This time, she finds herself ensnared in another Atticus Pünd mystery penned by a new author. The story unfolds at a lavish villa in Corfu during 1955, where the book, titled “Pünd’s Last Case,” contains more than just literary intrigue – it conceals the identity of a real murderer, placing Susan in grave danger yet again.
In this scenario, Patrick Melrose, famously known for his roles in “Patrick Melrose” and “The Crown”, once again takes on the character of Atticus Pünd – a detective from literature – who assists Susan in unraveling the mystery surrounding the murder of Miriam Crace, a renowned children’s author globally.
The original creative team will stay together: Rebecca Gatward is coming back to direct, and Suzanne McAuley will produce again. The last show, “Moonflower Murders,” was a huge hit for the BBC, pulling in an average of 4.9 million viewers throughout its airing. As a result, it became one of the network’s most-watched acquired scripted series in 2024.
Horowitz expresses great joy in reuniting everyone – actors, director, producers, and crew members – for another installment of our highly successful TV show,” he says, as he’s the one bringing it to life. “I sense that this new chapter could surpass all others.
Jill Green, the executive producer, comments that Horowitz has yet again offered a distinctive and innovative viewpoint in the realm of murder mysteries. She highlights that ‘Marble Hall Murders’ concludes the trilogy, and as always, the writing and performances of the lead actors are top-notch.
Susanne Simpson, Head of Scripted Content at Masterpiece and Executive Producer, expressed: “We’re absolutely ecstatic to be collaborating with Eleventh Hour Films again, this time adapting one of Anthony’s captivating books. We’re delighted that Lesley and Tim will reprise their roles in the upcoming series ‘Marble Hall Murders.’ The earlier two series were a great success for us, and we can hardly wait for our viewers to experience it!”
Susanne Simpson, Masterpiece’s head of scripted content and executive producer, commented: “We’re overjoyed to be working with Eleventh Hour Films once more, this time to bring one of Anthony’s outstanding novels to the screen. We can hardly contain our excitement about having Lesley and Tim back in their roles for ‘Marble Hall Murders.’ The previous two series were a hit for us, and we can’t wait for our audience to enjoy it!
The play will be broadcast worldwide through Sony Pictures Television, while PBS Distribution takes care of the distribution within North America.
