Actors Mena Suvari, Skeet Ulrich, Elizabeth Marvel, Lin Shaye, Alicia Sanz, and Nick Stahl have signed on to star in “Devoted,” a forthcoming horror movie directed by Richard J. Bosner.
The movie chronicles a woman (Suvari) who assumes guardianship over her long-lost sister (Marvel), the lone survivor of a recent mass cult suicide incident. However, instead of joy from their reunion, it transforms into sheer horror as her sister’s sway over their lives plunges them into a brutal nightmare, including her husband (Ulrich).
As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve always appreciated the talents of these remarkable actors. Leslie Suvari rose to fame with her roles in “American Beauty” and “American Pie,” and more recently, she graced our screens in “Reagan” and “Beyond the Rush.” Richard Ulrich, who charmed us in “As Good as It Gets” and gave us chills in “Scream,” is set to appear alongside Claire Forlani in an upcoming project titled “Salvation.” Marvelous as ever, she’s known for her work in “House of Cards,” “The Color Purple,” and “The Dropout,” and she recently graced our screens once more in “Presumed Innocent.” The enigmatic Jack Shaye is a staple in the “Insidious” series, while Michael Sanz has left his mark on films like “El Cid” and “Billionaire Boys Club.” Lastly, I can’t forget the captivating performances of David Strathairn in “Sin City” and “In the Bedroom.
In this project, Bosner – a first-time feature director – is working together with Robert Ogden Barnum, Eric Binns, and Carissa Knol as the producers. Meanwhile, Danny Chan, Dana Guerin, John Frank Rosenblum, Matt Rhodes, Tyler Transki, Michael Sklut, and Sam Maydew are serving as executive producers. At present, the film is going through post-production.
The film “Devoted” originates from the brief piece titled “Devotee,” which first screened at the 2024 Hollyshorts Film Festival and was chosen as part of the 2024 Beyond Fest lineup.
In a statement, I expressed that ‘Dedicated’ is my personal tribute to the classic horror genre and the mystique of the occult, delving into a tense journey through fear, as well as the extraordinary measures one takes to safeguard their loved ones. This tale has been vividly realized by an outstanding ensemble cast, whose skills and commitment infuse the narrative with chilling realism.
Prior to taking up the role of a director, Bosner was involved in creating critically-acclaimed movies such as “Fruitvale Station” by Ryan Coogler and “Black Bear” by Lawrence Michael Levine.
