International film company, Memento Films, is making headlines with several agreements secured for “Gazer,” a gripping neo-noir psychological thriller written by Ryan J. Sloan. This captivating production first graced the screens during Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight’s premiere event.
The paranoia thriller, filmed in New Jersey using 16mm film stock, follows Ariella Mastronianni’s character, Frankie – a young mother battling dyschronometria, an unusual brain condition that affects her sense of time. To help navigate her life, she relies on cassette tapes. Due to her condition, finding consistent employment is challenging. When a questionable woman presents her with a job opportunity, she seizes it, oblivious to the ominous events that lie ahead.
The movie “Gazer” has been acquired for distribution in various regions: Rialto Distribution (Australia & New Zealand), Gulf Film (Middle East), AV-Jet International (Taiwan), PT Falcon (Indonesia), Feather Stone (Vietnam), and Skeye (Airlines). Earlier, Metrograph Pictures secured the rights for North America, planning a theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada starting February 21. In France, UFO Distribution will handle the release; in the U.K., Bulldog Film Distribution; and in Hungary, Cinefil Co. will do so.
After its debut at Cannes, the film continued to be shown at Deauville, Sitges, and Göteborg. It is scheduled to appear at the Dublin and Glasgow film festivals as well.
Memento International‘s 20th anniversary lineup features several highly anticipated films, such as Damiano Michieletto’s “Primavera,” a movie about the Italian Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi, Haifaa Al-Mansour’s crime thriller “Unidentified,” Hailey Gates’ debut feature “Atropia,” which premiered in Sundance’s U.S. dramatic competition, and Emilie Blichfeld’s “The Ugly Stepsister.” This film was the opening movie for Sundance’s midnight section and will also be screened at Berlin’s Panorama.
