As more Xbox exclusive games become available on Sony’s PlayStation 5, some gamers are questioning the need to own one of Microsoft’s consoles. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has contributed to this discussion by advocating for more Xbox games on other platforms like consoles and PC. In a recent interview, Spencer also admits that the hardware differences between the Xbox Series X and PS5 have significantly decreased.
Recently, Spencer graced The Destin Channel with his presence, expressing his viewpoint that the present console era lacks variety. He’s hoping that the upcoming version of Xbox will bring unique advancements, making it a more appealing option for gamers.
Spencer explained, “Let’s focus on making our hardware stand out by being innovative. Currently, the competition is fierce in terms of hardware differentiation, but we’ve relied too much on games to define our hardware. I appreciate unique handheld devices and creative work from hardware manufacturers. I want our hardware to not just keep up, but excel… So, let’s push our platform forward by continuously innovating with services and the hardware development we’re doing… I believe this is our key identity moving forward, and it’s proving successful for us now.
According to Spencer’s latest statements, he aims for Xbox to come out on top in any console competitions. At the same time, he emphasizes that new games must be available on both Series S and Series X platforms. Spencer’s hints about portable devices could further stoke speculation that Microsoft might be working on a handheld console.
For now, it’s possible that games such as Starfield could appear on PS5 in the near future, while Indiana Jones: The Great Circle and Doom: The Dark Ages are set to debut on Sony’s console within the first half of this year. Additionally, there have been rumors suggesting that popular Xbox franchises like Halo and Gears of War might also transition to PlayStation 5.
