As we approach the upcoming installment of this well-known series, we’re on the brink of unveiling details for MLB The Show 25. Historically, the start of February has been when we first share sneak peeks into each new edition, and given past trends, it’s likely that we’ll be making announcements as early as tomorrow. In an exciting turn of events, Elly De La Cruz himself has revealed he will grace the cover of MLB The Show 25!
Elly De La Cruz Announces He’s the MLB The Show 25 Cover Athlete
It appears that either Elly De La Cruz intentionally revealed the news first or an early scheduled post was released, but it seems the genie is out of the bottle now. Based on a video shared by De La Cruz on Instagram, he’s set to grace the cover of MLB The Show 25.
As a young and ambitious gamer from the Dominican Republic, I can’t help but feel a surge of pride in my heart. I was fortunate enough to be signed as an international free agent back in 2018, and now, just three years later, I find myself in the major leagues.
It all happened in June of 2023, making me the fifth-youngest player in the National League at the tender age of 21. And ever since then, it’s been a whirlwind of excitement as people have seen my potential to shine with the Reds. I can hardly wait to see what the future holds for this rising star!
In just one day following his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut, Elly De La Cruz smashed his initial homerun with an impressive 458-foot shot against the Los Angeles Dodgers. A few weeks afterward, he broke records by being the youngest player to achieve a cycle (single, double, triple, and home run) since Cesar Cedeno in 1972. Additionally, a few weeks later, he set another remarkable milestone as the first Reds player to steal second, third, and home in the same inning since Greasy Neale back in 1919. His exceptional skills continued into the 2024 season, where he made history by being the first shortstop in MLB history to hit at least 20 homeruns and steal 60 bases in a single season.
I’m thrilled about the decision to feature Elly De La Cruz on the cover of MLB The Show 25! Sony San Diego has been consistently choosing young, rising stars like Fernando Tatis Jr, Jazz Chisholm Jr, Vladimir Guerrero Jr in recent years. Even Shohei Ohtani, who was a bit older at the time, graced the cover of MLB The Show 22 when he was breaking records left and right! Elly seems like a perfect fit for this esteemed lineup.
It’s still undecided if MLB The Show 25 will feature a distinctive cover for a special edition. Derek Jeter was selected for The Show 23, while Jackie Robinson graced a unique cover for The Show 21. Previously, the special edition last year highlighted the Negro Leagues, which have been central in the game’s Storylines mode. This year, they may opt to focus on a similar theme or choose a different baseball legend as the highlight for MLB The Show 25.
