In a recent conversation with GamerTag Radio, Microsoft’s Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer, voiced his approval of Nintendo and subtly suggested that Xbox games may become available on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Spencer expressed that it’s important for users to enjoy our games and services across a wide variety of devices, which is why Microsoft aims to make Xbox games available on numerous screens.
Phil Spencer, speaking about Xbox, expressed a desire for people to enjoy their games on numerous devices. He emphasized that there won’t be any restrictions on where players can access these games or experience Xbox through various means. This could be through cloud gaming, PC, handheld devices, smartphones, and more. His goal is to make it possible for everyone to play Xbox games, which involves releasing more titles on multiple platforms, not just PlayStation. He also mentioned his appreciation for collaborations with Nintendo and Valve on Steam, and he plans to expand these partnerships further. In essence, he believes in prioritizing the games above all else, ensuring they can be as excellent as possible.
According to Spencer, it’s crucial for players to select hardware that suits them best, even though he hopes that this hardware will eventually be created by Microsoft. However, his primary focus is ensuring that Microsoft’s games reach a broader audience. One reason behind this approach is the impressive success of games that can be played on various platforms.
He enthusiastically praised the decisions taken by Nintendo, expressing his eagerness to collaborate with them using the games available at Xbox. In fact, he personally extended his congratulations to Nintendo’s CEO, Shuntaro Furukawa, upon the unveiling of the Switch 2.
Spencer expressed his belief that the Japanese video game company plays a crucial role within the industry, stating, “It’s hard to imagine them not being successful. They truly excel at their craft, as proven by the phenomenal success of the Switch, and I expect the same for Switch 2.”
It’s increasingly vital for a game to be playable across multiple screens, ensuring continuity and community accessibility. Ideally, this flexibility should be standard practice for every game we invest our time into, allowing us to enjoy the same experience seamlessly on any device of our choice.
As a gamer, I treasure the unique gaming experience on my personal setup, my preferred platform. Yet, you can bet your last controller that our games are going to pop up in an increasing number of spots across the gaming universe.
Microsoft is currently developing their own portable gaming system, though it’s said to be a couple of years before it hits the market. Some of their games are already playable on the Nintendo Switch, and there’s talk that Halo: The Master Chief Collection might be released for the Switch 2 in the future.
Spencer additionally delved into various subjects, such as insights gained by Microsoft during the unveiling of Xbox 360, his preferred game for the year 2024 (comparable to a captivating fantasy called ReFantazio), and strategies for addressing player comments.
Spencer explained that handling criticism from Xbox users is part of his learning process and helps him maintain balance. He emphasized that stepping outside his usual circle and interacting with new people is essential for growth.
