Shocking Streaming Stats: ‘Bluey’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Dominate 2024!

2024 saw me spending a significant amount of time immersed in two captivating series – “Bluey” on Disney+ and “Grey’s Anatomy” across Hulu and Netflix. According to Nielsen’s year-end report, I wasn’t alone as these shows claimed the top spots for most-streamed programs! With a whopping 55.62 billion viewing minutes under its belt, “Bluey” was undoubtedly my preferred choice among preschool programs. On the other hand, “Grey’s Anatomy” garnered an impressive 47.85 billion minutes of attention from viewers like myself.

The following animated series on Hulu claimed the second and third spots: “Family Guy” with a whopping 42.44 billion minutes watched, closely followed by “Bob’s Burgers” with 36.80 billion. In fourth place was “NCIS,” which garnered 35.91 billion minutes across Netflix, Hulu, and Paramount+. The sixth and seventh positions were held by “Young Sheldon” and “The Big Bang Theory,” respectively. These were followed in order by “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Criminal Minds,” and “SpongeBob SquarePants.”

Overall streaming figures experienced a rise of 10% compared to 2023, accumulating approximately 12 trillion minutes in total. This is equivalent to roughly 8.4 billion hours spent streaming, which translates to the same amount of time humans have been on Earth for about 23 million years.

In the world of streaming, it was a week without any fresh original debuts taking the top spot. However, I found myself captivated by Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” which reigned supreme with an impressive 21.42 billion viewing minutes. Close behind was another Netflix gem, their dating series “Love Is Blind,” that garnered a substantial 16.45 billion minutes of my attention. The original charts also featured “The Boys,” “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “Fallout,” “Futurama,” “Fool Me Once,” “Evil,” “Gabby’s Dollhouse” and the latest addition, “Reacher.” Each one offering a unique cinematic experience that kept me glued to my screen.

2024 saw “Fallout” from Amazon Prime Video as the most popular newly released drama series, racking up a staggering 11.95 billion minutes of viewing time. “Fool Me Once,” a Netflix original, came in second place with an impressive 10.89 billion minutes watched. In the realm of new comedy series, “Nobody Wants This” on Netflix took the lead with 4.90 billion minutes viewed, and the Ted Danson-starring “A Man on the Inside” was a close second with 2.94 billion minutes streamed.

In 2024, Netflix claimed the first and second spots for most-watched original unscripted/documentary titles with “American Nightmare” (3.57 billion views) and “Unlocked: A Jail Experiment” (2.50 billion). Hulu’s “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” garnered 2.14 billion viewing minutes, while MrBeast’s competition series on Prime Video, “Beast Games,” managed an impressive 700 million minutes despite being released towards the end of December.

In terms of streaming, animated films dominated the top 10 most popular movies, accounting for nine out of the ten. Leading the pack was Disney’s 2016 release “Moana,” with a staggering 13.03 billion minutes watched on various platforms. Close behind was “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” on Netflix, which amassed 11.72 billion viewing minutes. Other notable mentions in the top tier include “Red One,” “Trolls Band Together,” “Minions,” “Encanto,” “Frozen,” “Paw Patrol: The Movie,” “Inside Out,” and “The Boss Baby.

Additionally, Nielsen highlighted two classic shows that garnered significant streaming success in 2024: “Little House on the Prairie” (13.25 billion minutes watched on Peacock) and “Gunsmoke” (10.23 billion on Peacock and Paramount+). Both programs attracted substantial viewership from African American audiences and an older age group.
