Carey Mulligan disclosed at the EbMaster Studio hosted by Audible during Sundance that she has recently begun shooting the second season of Netflix’s series “Beef.” With the first season earning Emmys for its leading actors Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, there is much excitement about the upcoming episodes. The new season of the show will introduce a fresh storyline and an entirely new cast, starring Mulligan, Oscar Isaac (her co-star in the Coen Brothers’ “Inside Llewyn Davis”), Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny.
Mulligan mentioned that the new season is quite different, but still retains Lee Sung Jin’s brilliance when asked about it by Tatiana Seigel from EbMaster’s. He went on to say that it’s a fresh tale, and any further details might result in a laser beam beaming down on his head. However, he emphasized that it’s truly exciting.
A different movie Mulligan can’t discuss is Emerald Fennell’s “Wuthering Heights,” featuring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Mulligan was nominated for an Oscar for leading Fennell’s first directorial feature, “Promising Young Woman,” and gave a notable supporting performance in the director’s subsequent film “Saltburn.” However, a third collaboration with Fennell is currently on hold, as Mulligan has revealed to EbMaster that she won’t be part of the cast for “Wuthering Heights.
Mulligan stated, “She’s not doing it for this project, but I certainly hope she directs more films in the future, as I’d really enjoy seeing that.
It was announced last fall that Netflix is indeed proceeding with a second season for “Beef”. The tagline for this new season reads: “A young couple stumbles upon an unsettling argument between their superior and his spouse, leading to strategic moves of favors and manipulation within the exclusive realm of a country club and its wealthy Korean proprietor.” The upcoming season of “Beef” will feature eight half-hour episodes.
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to be attending Sundance this year! I have the privilege of playing a supporting role in “The Ballad of Wallis Island,” a film directed by the talented James Griffiths from a script penned by Tom Basden and Tim Key. This movie revolves around an unusual lottery winner who invites his favorite musicians for a private performance on his secluded island. I can hardly believe they agreed! The story is a full-length adaptation of the award-winning short film “The One and Only Herb McGwyer Plays Wallis Island,” which was crowned best short film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and earned a 2008 BAFTA nomination.
Mulligan expressed her enthusiasm about joining this unique trio’s realm, based on the remarkable short film. She yearned to be part of a project that contributes positively to society, and she found it delightful and captivating. It’s crucial to have such uplifting experiences. The script was brilliantly crafted, and the music was exceptionally beautiful.
On March 28, “The Ballad of Wallis Island” will hit the big screens, having premiered worldwide at Sundance earlier.
