This week, the widely respected and well-liked post-apocalyptic survival game called Project Zomboid, which boasts over 266,000 positive reviews on Steam with a whopping 94%, received a significant update labeled as 42.1.0. This latest version brings along numerous helpful features, though some players might not have realized the change in maps.
In their chat with PCGamesN, representatives from The Indie Stone studio shed light on how the ‘Project Zomboid’ map seed system operates. If you’ve been carefully observing, you might have spotted that during gameplay, the session screen now provides information about the “seed,” which serves as a distinctive code for the map and influences the generation of the world.
In games like Minecraft where levels are randomly generated, this code can prove helpful when you want to share an intriguing map with your friends. Similarly, in Project Zomboid, it serves a similar purpose. However, it’s important to note that the specifics of the code and what gets transferred to another session have been clearly outlined by the game developers.
The system extends beyond the initial layout, encompassing features such as tree locations, grassy areas (to be seen in the future), and subterranean regions. When transferring a seed from another game, it carries over these components, including the type of underground areas like basements that were generated.
The map’s “seed” will hold data about subterranean hideouts and plant distribution, but it won’t pass on unpredictable occurrences that players may face while exploring the game environment. This excludes tales from apartments, which are called “house stories,” as well as those from outside locations, often referred to as “car stories.
Familiarizing yourself with the map code could prove beneficial if you’ve found an excellent hiding spot in the basement that you plan to use again later. It’s possible that the developers may enhance this functionality in future updates, as it seems to have been absent since the launch of Project Zomboid.
