Attention: This post may reveal plot details from Season 3 of “The Traitors” U.K., available on BBC and BBC iPlayer. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.
Slip on your fingerless gloves, gently line your eyes with dark makeup, and grab a crow prop. Tonight marks the end of “The Traitors,” the largest British reality series, and never before has the outcome seemed so uncertain.
Unlike Season 2, where Traitor Harry had an easy ride, the expulsion of Traitor Minah and Charlotte’s daring decision to bring Faithful Freddie on board (who raised suspicions when he voted for her at the council meeting) has led to a more unpredictable game. To add to this, there’s a fresh twist: the Seer ability, which for the first time lets one player discover who is genuinely a Traitor or Loyalist during the game itself. In last night’s episode finale, Francesca will learn that Charlotte is actually a Traitor.
As I navigate through this game, it’s important to consider the recent twist that has been unveiled at the onset of this season: Now, the departing players no longer reveal whether they are Faithful or Traitors when they exit the game. This secretive element adds an extra layer of uncertainty, subtly increasing the odds of a Traitor emerging victorious.
Understood? Let me tell you, it was quite intricate. Goodness gracious, I truly hope you’re familiar with that series, or else these last three passages might as well be a mystery.
Despite this, it’s quite strange to be watching, especially considering that the standout performers from the show haven’t advanced to the finale – with the exception of Alexander, who Claudia mentioned is single (Alexander, by the way, is the internet’s new favorite).
The most beloved player from the previous year was Diane, largely due to her shocking disclosure that her hidden competitor was her son Ross. This surprising truth was hinted at dramatically, similar to the scale of Colleen Rooney’s ellipsis: “Paul isn’t my son… but Ross is.
This year, Linda has been the most beloved character among viewers, largely because her poorly executed GCSE drama performances were mistaken for genuine acts of faithfulness. From her subtle reaction when Claudia mentioned “traitors” mere seconds after being chosen as one, to her shocked exclamation “oh my god who the hell is not going to come back?” when it was clear she knew exactly who it was (having killed them) – she was an underdog due to her ineptitude at acting, yet managed to stay alive longer than we thought possible.
The phrase “somehow” has been replaced with “yet managed to stay alive longer than we thought possible” for clarity and flow.
Linda’s unusual reasoning for expelling another player, ‘One doesn’t need to be a sailor to understand the need to tie a knot…,’ became the season’s most memorable line. Later, she feigned tears over the banished player, but no one noticed her proximity. Eventually, even BBC promotion jumped on the bandwagon, staging a Performance of a Lifetime Award for Linda and advertising it on a poster in London’s Leicester Square.”
“Linda’s strange explanation for kicking another player off the show, ‘Even if you’re not a sailor, you still know you need to tie a rope…,’ was the standout quote of the season. She then pretended to cry over the banished player, but nobody noticed she was nearby. In the end, even the BBC advertising team joined in, creating a Performance of a Lifetime Award for Linda and putting it up on a poster in London’s Leicester Square.”
Both versions maintain the original meaning while being more natural and easier to read.
Linda’s about to reap a substantial profit by visiting LGBTQ+ bars throughout the upcoming year. Kudos to her!
However, Linda wasn’t the only one who left an impact. Even though she made a significant sacrifice by exiting early in Episode 1 and then bowing out during a crucial competition, Fozia demonstrated that longevity in a reality show isn’t everything; it’s about shining brightly. She even anticipated her fellow contestants, criticizing them for overemphasizing the game (which will be discussed further), and her departure left the most memorable mark on the series.
“Linda, get a good night’s sleep tonight because you’re going next,” said Fozia.
“Get over it,” Linda responded.
As a devoted cinephile, I must say that “The Traitors” wouldn’t have been the same without the amusing typos on chalkboards this season. The misspellings were truly something else! Kevin misspelled Nathan as ‘Nather’, Jake transformed Armani into ‘Armania’, and poor Minah, was she Meina (by Anna) or Mina (by Alexander)? It’s a mystery! But let’s be grateful it wasn’t as bad as Geraldine in the U.S. version’s Season 1, who was spelled as ‘Jeryldean’ by another player. That misspelling alone deserves a lifetime banishment!
As a dedicated cinephile, I must confess that among the three seasons, this one hasn’t been my favorite to watch. It seems like the contestants have studied the previous seasons meticulously and tailored their strategies accordingly. For instance, Elen correctly predicted that The Traitors could be all women, mirroring last year’s all-men lineup. It’s a bit of a letdown when the magic of unpredictability fades into predictable patterns.
Occasionally, it seemed as though the contestants were overly focused on the game itself. Some players have been criticized excessively based on their personality traits or chosen to isolate themselves from others, which has made for uncomfortable viewing (justice for Kas, defended by Fozia). Moreover, the team spirit that was prevalent in past seasons appears to be absent, possibly due to the fact that shields are now central to most missions, fostering self-interest rather than unity.
As a film enthusiast, I’ve noticed that social media buzz often sparks a flurry of intriguing speculations. For instance, some fans believe Francesca might be Freddie’s mother or that Linda and Lisa were secretly sisters. These theories probably emerged due to the lack of mind-blowing plot twists, such as Leanne, the nail technician, being in the army. However, Charlotte’s random pretense of being Welish did manage to spark some entertaining discussions.
Uncloaked,” her winnings would have gone to a charity that had assisted her three sons.
Although, this generosity wasn’t the case for all of the players.
“You’re killing me, Lisa,” said Leon. “I wanted to get a new shed.”
