This timing allows voting members and the general public plenty of time to watch the event without it being too far off that people might forget about it. Additionally, it’s not so close that there would be room for extensive campaigning. In essence, it strikes the right balance.

It’s not set in stone yet, but it looks like we might have to wait a few months before it becomes available for streaming. If it performs exceptionally well during the remainder of the awards season, there’s a chance it could be released earlier.
