Overwatch Fans Revolt Over New 6v6 Playtest, Demand Role Queue Return

The majority of the Overwatch community criticized the new 6vs6 playtest with a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 players, arguing that the previous role-based queue system was much more preferable.

In the launch of Overwatch 2’s Season 14 midseason update, they introduced their second significant 6v6 playtest using a new “min 1 max 3” system. This innovative format permits up to three characters per role, but ensures at least one character is present for each role, thus replacing the traditional role queue system.

It seems that the community has mostly expressed displeasure towards the new test, with a significant number preferring the old role queue mode. Social media platforms are abuzz with fans voicing their dissatisfaction and asking for a return to role queue entirely.

Fans are saying 6v6 role queue is far superior

A major concern arising from the latest setup is the accumulation of tanks. Surprisingly, Blizzard decided against adjusting tank balances in this new gameplay mode, even though it allows for up to three tanks per team. This often results in teams with more tanks winning outright more frequently.

One user commented, “It seems like we’re back to the most frustrating aspects of Overwatch before Role Queue. The immediate formation of a team with three tanks feels like it ruins everything.

It appears that the majority of gamers don’t seem to favor this particular mode, leading to lengthy waits for even those who enjoy it. One player mentioned they waited 45 minutes just to join a game, while others often reported waiting around 20 minutes.

The switch to 5v5 by Blizzard was primarily due to queue times, according to someone. In simpler terms, this person is saying that no matter how great a game is, if players have to wait for 20 minutes just to start playing it, they won’t play it at all.

Beyond the problem of unstable balance, having a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 characters with poor team compositions can be extremely frustrating for your team. It’s quite possible to have only one support character in a game or three damage-dealing characters instead, which was an issue that existed in the game even before role queue was implemented.

Another player expressed that it seems they’re battling their own team composition just as much as they’re battling the opposing team.

In summary, although the trial of the mode was engaging, it appears that a rotation of 1 to 3 players per team might not be suitable if 6v6 were to become permanent. On the other hand, the 6v6 role-based queue proved to be incredibly effective for the game, but it remains unclear whether this format will make a comeback in the future.
