At its initial release, FC 25 underperformed compared to expectations, serving as a much-needed jolt for Electronic Arts to bolster their efforts towards the game’s development.
On the 15th of January, my gaming world was revolutionized with Title Update 8 for FC 25. This update was hailed as the “greatest patch in FIFA history” by fellow gamers due to its long-awaited fixes for problems that had been plaguing Ultimate Team gameplay, making it inconsistent and less enjoyable.
This revision involves weakening the defensive artificial intelligence, improving near-goal shots, and lessening defenders’ capacity to keep up with swift attackers. Simultaneously, the update enhanced close-range shooting, offensive AI, and passing agility. Consequently, the game now plays faster, smoother, and focuses more on attacking play.
Although some people find it harder to justify now due to increased difficulty, many fans consider this an anticipated enhancement. Regrettably, this upgrade was introduced following Electronic Arts’ inability to achieve their targeted sales figures.
EA FC 25 devs commit to the game’s future
On January 22nd, 2025, the publisher disclosed tentative sales figures for the third fiscal quarter. EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, acknowledged that EA SPORTS FC 25 did not meet our anticipated net bookings during this quarter, which corresponds to when FC 25 was launched in September 2024.
Wilson isn’t worried by the fact that FC 25 is underperforming, as he firmly trusts that Title Update 8 will assist in revitalizing the game.
This month, our teams have rolled out an extensive gameplay overhaul along with the annual Team of the Year upgrade for FC 25. The feedback from players has been positive so far, and early outcomes are promising, according to Wilson. We continue to trust in our long-term approach, and we anticipate a resurgence in growth during FY26 as we move forward with our plans.
The fact that EA seemed to heed community feedback following a failed launch doesn’t instill much confidence. However, it’s worth noting that the development team eventually admitted the game fell short of expectations and took appropriate action in response.
After the recent update, two Electronic Arts (EA) developers held a talk with professional FIFA player Tekkz to review the modifications. This conversation provided us with a level of clarity that we haven’t seen in quite some time, as the developers explained the reasoning behind each adjustment they made.
Additionally, EA reinforced their commitment by assuring further enhancements shortly. With such regular communication and frequent gameplay upgrades, players can be confident that the game is progressing favorably.
If you happened to let go of FC 25, now would be an ideal moment for you to come back. In fact, the Team of the Year promotion team has just unveiled the top Ultimate Team cards, and some free Evolutions have been introduced to upgrade your favorite players into essential ones.
