The newly launched PC version of “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth” is currently being celebrated by Japanese media outlets, who are publishing interviews with Yoshinori Kitase and Naoki Hamaguchi. Notably, interviews from Famitsu and 4Gamer also delved into the development process for the upcoming third installment, marking the final entry in the “Final Fantasy VII Remake” trilogy project.
Hamaguchi shared during two interviews that his team commenced development on the third title immediately following the PS5 release of FFVII Rebirth, estimated for March or April 2024. By year-end, they had created a playable build of the game, giving him a sense of the gaming experiences they aim to deliver with the final version. As they step into 2025, they are now beginning to construct the entire game based on the agreed-upon direction.
After being interviewed right before the launch of FFVII Rebirth on PS5 in February 2024, Kazushige Nojima had already drafted the scenario for the third installment. However, it still required further refinement. Tetsuya Nomura and his team were directed to create a fitting conclusion for the remake project that would honor the original PS1 release, while providing players with a sense of fulfillment they didn’t experience before. Now, Kitase is excited to announce that the story script for the third entry has been completely finalized.
The interviews revealed a worry about the significant time difference between the launches of Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4 and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5. However, Hamaguchi aimed to alleviate these concerns in both interviews. In an interview with 4Gamer, he emphasized the team’s desire to distribute the game across a wider variety of platforms. On Famitsu, he suggested that the gap between the console and PC versions for the third installment might be narrower than in previous releases.
It’s going to be some time before we can publicly unveil the final installment in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. In the meantime, you can purchase and enjoy the first game, Final Fantasy VII Remake, as well as the second, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. These games are currently available globally on PlayStation 5 and PC platforms.
