Today at the Xbox Developer Direct event, it was revealed that Ninja Gaiden 4 is in development – a fresh 3D action title that carries on the narrative of Ryu Hayabusa. This project is being jointly handled by Koei Tecmo’s internal Team Ninja studio and Platinum Games.
The narrative focuses on Ryu and the fresh addition, Yakumo – a ninja belonging to the opposing Raven clan, who clash with Hayabusa’s group. They engage in a struggle against the sinister Dark Dragon. Tokyo is currently engulfed in an unending downpour known as the Darkrot Rain, and their ultimate objective is to vanquish the dragon permanently to lift the curse and rescue the city from this perpetual gloom.
In this alternate Tokyo, Yakumo will deploy two distinct combat techniques – Raven Style and Nue Style – against the Divine Dragon Order, who serve as law enforcers, and a swarm of demons protecting the Dark Dragon. While Ryu and Yakumo may slightly vary their styles, they’ll both utilize time-honored moves such as the Izuna Drop and the Flying Swallow.
2025 will see three new installments of the Ninja Gaiden series, one of which is a fresh adventure. At the same time, Xbox Developer Direct revealed Ninja Gaiden II Black, a remake of Ninja Gaiden 2 originally released for the Xbox, and Dotemu and The Game Kitchen recently unveiled Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a game in the metroidvania style.
Ninja Gaiden 4 is set to launch in Fall 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
