Compulsion Games, creators of We Happy Few, are set to debut their upcoming title, South of Midnight, on April 8th. This revelation was made during the Xbox Developer Direct video stream. At launch, the game will be accessible through Game Pass for both Xbox and PC platforms. However, it’s important to note that this feature is only available for the Ultimate tier subscribers.

Starting from April 3, 2025, the Premium version will be accessible five days earlier than usual. Upgrade tokens for this early access period and additional perks can be purchased by members of Game Pass Ultimate.

To the south lies a thrilling third-person action-adventure titled “South of Midnight.” This gripping tale unfolds amidst the backdrop of the American Deep South, where our protagonist Hazel and her mother brace themselves against an impending massive hurricane.

The storm is colossal, leading to disastrous flooding that carries away their home with Hazel’s mother inside. In its wake, the fictional town of Prospero, situated in the southern U.S., remains eerily quiet but has been fundamentally altered by the hurricane’s devastation. Throughout this journey, Hazel searches for her mother, uncovering more about herself and her family’s history along the way.

In the game, players encounter a colossal talking creature named Catfish, trapped in a tree following the hurricane. Catfish reveals to Hazel that she’s a unique entity called a Weaver. Endowed with extraordinary abilities, Hazel can summon past iterations of items to employ them in solving puzzles. Players will also meet Two-Toed Tom, a massive blind albino alligator roughly the size of an island.

Game director Jasmin Roy explained that among the spells you can use in a fight are “Push”, “Pull”, and “Weave”. These spells provide strategic benefits during combat. The key to success lies in timing. Use “Pull” to draw distant opponents closer, initiating melee combos. Utilize “Push” to shove them backward, disrupting their attacks and causing a stun effect. Lastly, capitalize on the opportunity with subsequent strikes.
