Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Development Takes Another Big Step Forward

A year post-launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5, we’ve made significant strides in the development of the final chapter of this remake trilogy. Our series producer, Yoshinori Kitase, announced that by the end of 2024, the story scenario for the third game was wrapped up and he’s “thrilled” with the outcome. As a gamer eagerly awaiting the conclusion, I can’t help but share his excitement!

In a conversation with Famitsu, as reported by Eurogamer, directors Kitase and Hamaguchi mentioned that work on the third installment commenced immediately following the completion of Rebirth, and so far, there have been no setbacks in its development process.

Kitase added that it fell upon creative director Tetsuya Nomura to ensure that the game’s ending would pay homage to the original Final Fantasy 7, all while wrapping up the series in a fulfilling manner.

According to Kitase, he is extremely pleased with it, which leads him to believe that the fans will find the final chapter equally satisfying.

It seems unlikely that the upcoming Final Fantasy Remake chapter will only be available on the PlayStation 6 as a timed exclusive. In response to speculation regarding the game potentially being limited to the next-generation console, Kitase, who has worked on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, assured fans that they can expect the next installment to be accessible on other platforms as well. (This information is derived from Kitase’s statement to 4Gamer, as reported by VGC.)

This aligns with Square Enix’s recent multi-platform business strategy, which they unveiled last year as a means to foster long-term success. Regrettably, Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 in 2023 didn’t achieve the sales targets set by the company (although specific sales numbers haven’t been disclosed yet). However, Rebirth managed to rank as the 17th top-selling game in the US for 2024, and it goes live today on PC.
