Comcast is introducing an offer tailored for budget-friendly TV enthusiasts seeking a more streamlined channel selection and reduced costs.
Comcast, the major cable provider, unveiled Sports & News TV, a fresh video plan tailored for Xfinity Internet broadband subscribers. This package offers over 50 live news, sports, and broadcast channels, in addition to Peacock access. The Sports & News TV is priced at $70 per month when bundled with Xfinity Internet, without any binding contract.
In marketing its services, Comcast is emphasizing that its $70 monthly fee is lower than YouTube TV’s current rate of $82.99 per month (following a price increase in December) and Disney’s Hulu + Live TV, which starts at $81.99 per month for live TV alone. On the Xfinity Sports & News landing page, they claim that customers can save $150 annually compared to YouTube TV by choosing their new ultimate entertainment experience.
Earlier this month, DirecTV unveiled a new, streamlined sports package called MySports, featuring 40 sports and broadcast channels initially. This package is currently accessible in 24 major cities, priced at $70 per month after an introductory offer of $50 monthly for the first three months.

In early August, DirecTV launched a revamped sports package named MySports, offering 40 sports and broadcast channels initially across 24 urban areas. The standard cost is set at $70 per month following a promotional price of $50 monthly for the initial three months.
Individually, Comcast offers a less expensive streaming video plan named Now TV, which begins at only $20 monthly and provides over 125 channels. However, it’s essential to note that this package does not encompass sports networks or local television stations. Additionally, Now TV necessitates the use of Xfinity Internet broadband service.
The Sports & News TV package offered by Comcast, accessible to both new and current Xfinity subscribers, encompasses: all local television stations such as ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, Telemundo, and Univision; national news networks like CNBC, CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC; sports channels broadcasting live events including ESPN, ACC Network, Big Ten Network, FS1, Golf Channel, and SEC Network.
Furthermore, Comcast’s Sports & News TV offers entry to Peacock, the streaming service by NBCUniversal which showcases original series, over 8,000 hours of live sports such as NFL football, Premier League soccer, and WWE, movies, next-day viewing of all new shows from NBC and Bravo, along with a library of content and daily news broadcasts.
For several years now, Comcast has been experiencing a decrease in its cable TV subscriber base. By the end of the third quarter in 2024, the company had only 12.834 million domestic video customers left, marking a decline of 365,000 during that period and a drop of close to 1.7 million compared to the previous year.
John Dixon, Comcast’s senior VP of entertainment, stated that by combining leading networks for live sports and news with Peacock, the top streaming service for sports enthusiasts, we have created a unique video bundle. This package offers the finest content at an unrivaled cost, all within a premium viewing experience designed to help customers easily access their preferred live sports and news channels. Essentially, Sports & News TV is an excellent choice for those seeking a budget-friendly entertainment option without compromising on their favorite live sports and news networks.
As a dedicated enthusiast, I can’t help but be thrilled about the Sports & News TV package that provides an impressive 300 hours of cloud DVR storage. It’s not just the storage space that gets me, though; it’s also the access to over 100 streaming channels! These include captivating shows like American Crimes, E!’s Keeping Up, Fox Sports for sports fanatics, Telemundo Al Dia for Spanish speakers, Today All Day for those who love news around the clock, and Sky News to stay informed about global events. It’s a veritable treasure trove of entertainment!
Users have the option to upgrade their subscription by purchasing an X1 set-top box at an additional cost, which offers advanced features such as improved 4K, Multiview, Odds Zone, and a search function with the Xfinity voice remote. The Sports & News TV package is available not only at home but also on mobile devices through the Xfinity Stream app on compatible platforms like Apple TV and iOS, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku.
For those who enjoy Xfinity Sports & News TV, you might consider adding extras such as the More Sports & Entertainment pack priced at an extra $9.995 monthly. This package includes popular sports channels like NFL RedZone, MLB Network, NBA TV, and NHL Network. Alternatively, there’s the Xfinity StreamSaver bundle with Netflix (ad-supported) and Apple TV+, which costs an additional $15 per month.
