Actors from the series “Cable Girls” – Yon Gonzalez and Samantha Siqueiros, who were also seen in the prequel of “Money Heist,” titled “Berlin,” have been cast as the main leads for Telemundo’s adaptation of the popular Spanish show “Velvet.” Joining them is Danilo Carrera from Ecuador, known for his roles in shows such as “Sed de Venganza” and “Hijas de la Luna.
The 2014 Spanish drama series “Velvet,” produced by Bambú Productions for Atresmedia Televisión, was initially created by Ramon Campos and Gema R. Neira. This captivating show takes place in the fashion world and explores themes such as love, family, and ambition. Over four seasons, it has garnered praise for its portrayal of the extravagant lifestyle of that time period.
The story centers on an “unconventional” love story between Alberto Márquez, a scion of the prestigious Galerías Velvet fashion empire, and Ana, a humble tailor within the same establishment.
Telemundo’s upcoming production is a multi-episode soap opera structure, taking place in contemporary New York City. Filming will occur at Telemundo Studios in Miami and on location in New York from late February onwards. Discussions are ongoing with prominent Latino fashion designers to make guest appearances within the show.
During our filming in Miami, we’re not just limiting ourselves to the usual. We’re also planning to involve celebrities – singers, athletes, and other well-known figures. We’re currently negotiating with several of these individuals who are based in Miami, hoping they might join our series at some stage,” shares Javier Pons, executive VP of Telemundo Studios, during an interview with EbMaster.
He shared that since unveiling our idea for ‘Velvet,’ there’s been a remarkable surge of enthusiasm and eagerness among industry professionals. We’ve been inundated with casting suggestions from numerous actors and actresses wanting to be part of it. Although the process has been tough, we’re crafting something truly unique and exceptional.
Regarding the forthcoming performance, Pons observes: “This serves as another demonstration of Telemundo’s dedication to innovation, as well as Telemundo Studios’ aim to not only present a star-studded cast from the North American and Mexican entertainment scene, but also to showcase and offer chances to rising stars.
Siqueiros will portray Ana Velásquez, a character born in Mexico who ascends to prominence at a young age in New York City, symbolizing the hardships and obstacles that many Latinos have encountered throughout their lives in America.
Siqueiros is set to play Ana Velásquez, a character whose journey from her Mexican homeland to success in New York mirrors the struggles and hurdles faced by numerous Latinos in the U.S. over time.
The story unfolds around not one, but two core themes of humanity – one immersed in high-end fashion, filled with glamour, luxury, ambition, and deceit in Manhattan; the other rooted in the everyday life and struggles of common folk in Queens. Pons explains this to EbMaster, assuring that they will keep a close eye on the original’s narrative threads.
NBCUniversal’s American Spanish-language television network anticipates outstanding years to come, with its forthcoming programming lineup and exclusive broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA Soccer World Cup.
Telemundo revealed in their annual report that they held the number one position as the leading Spanish-language television broadcast network during primetime hours from Monday to Sunday. This achievement was made with 962,000 total viewers tuning in for their usual programming, and key shows like “El Señor de los Cielos” and “La Casa de los Famosos” drawing a large audience. The network experienced a 13% growth in viewership compared to the previous year, outshining its Spanish-language competitors who instead saw a decrease in viewers.
