It’s hard to fathom, but it’s already been 25 years since Star Wars: The Phantom Menace premiered in cinemas. If this little reminder stirs up feelings of nostalgia (and perhaps a hint of aging), you’ll be delighted to hear that four video games based on the 1999 film are being released for PC and certain consoles as part of a new collection.
Tomorrow, you can grab the Prequel Collection for Star Wars, which contains four thrilling video games. This collection offers Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, Star Wars Republic Commando, and Star Wars Episode I: Racer. You can buy it starting February 23 on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
Among these four games, Star Wars Episode I: Racer, launched in 1999 on Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and Game Boy Color, stands out the most. This sci-fi racing game lets players choose between Anakin and any of the 22 Podracers, as they reach speeds of up to 600 mph while racing across tracks that span eight iconic Star Wars planets.
Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles, developed by Lucas Arts, blends platforming action with intense fight scenes in a game where players can assume the characters of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, Adi Gallia, and Plo Koon. The storyline roughly coincides with the happenings of The Phantom Menace, including brief dialogues or negotiations.
Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and Star Wars Republic Commando are games that emphasize the shooter genre more heavily. Bounty Hunter offers a third-person viewpoint, whereas Republic Commando is a standard first-person shooter. In Bounty Hunter, you take on the role of Jango Fett, the well-known Prime Clone of the Grand Army of the Republic, as you embark on a quest to capture a Dark Jedi. On the other hand, Republic Commando revolves around RC-1138, also known as “Boss”, who leads his teammates through various missions during the Clone Wars.
Each title here is individually purchasable, but Aspyr Media’s bundle provides a reduced cost – $55 on Steam and $65 for both PlayStation and Nintendo Switch – for all four games. If you’re keen on exploring more Star Wars games, check out Fantatical for substantial discounts on these:
