George Lopez will be bidding farewell to his stand-up comedy career as he presents a final special, which will premiere on February 18th, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
From the heart of Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, I found myself immersed in “Muy Católico,” a film that had me reflecting on the complexities of aging, the intricacies of Latino family dynamics, the clashes between generations, our deeply rooted superstitions, and the unique cultural idiosyncrasies that make us who we are.
At present, Lopez is featured in his multi-camera NBC sitcom “Lopez vs Lopez” alongside his genuine daughter Mayan Lopez. This show, which has been extended for a third season, delves into the complexity, rekindling, struggles, and happiness of George and Mayan’s true-life father-daughter bond, using a fictional perspective to tell their story.
George Lopez has been a prominent figure in Hollywood for over five decades, working across various platforms such as television, films, live comedy, and late-night shows. He boasts several HBO comedy specials like “The Wall,” “It’s Not Me, It’s You,” “Tall, Dark and Chicano,” and “America’s Mexican.” His latest stand-up act, “We’ll Do It for Half,” was released in 2020 on Netflix.
His television career took off with the trailblazing sitcom “George Lopez,” which ran for six seasons on ABC and continues to be a popular choice on Nick at Nite. Additionally, he produced and starred in “Lopez,” a single-camera sitcom based on his personal life, for two seasons on TV Land. He also co-created and starred in the multi-camera ensemble comedy “Saint George” for FX. He was instrumental in launching TBS’ first late-night talk show, “Lopez Tonight,” for a duration of two seasons, and he has featured in films like “The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D,” “Beverly Hills Chihuahua,” and “Balls of Fury.” Most recently, he entered the DC Extended Universe through the superhero film “Blue Beetle.
“Muy Católico” is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Travieso Productions.
