Insomniac Founder Ted Price Is Retiring After 30 Years

1994 saw Ted Price establish the company that later transformed into Insomniac Games, renowned for creating the Spyro the Dragon trilogy, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and Marvel’s Spider-Man series. As the company’s leader, Price also served as the creative director for Spyro, Ratchet, and Resistance. Recently, Price announced his intention to relinquish his role as CEO at Insomniac and retire from the video game industry. To fill this void, Insomniac has elevated three long-standing employees to lead the company instead.

According to a recent post on the PlayStation blog, Ryan Schneider, Jen Huang, and Chad Dezern have been appointed as the new co-heads for Insomniac Games. Ryan Schneider, who started with the company during the PS2 era, was previously Insomniac’s first community director. Jen Huang, who has been part of the team for eight years, has held positions such as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Head of Finance. Chad Dezern, who joined Insomniac in 1998, has served as the Head of Creative since 2017, making him the longest-serving member among the three new co-heads.

Through a statement from Insomniac Games’ parent company, Sony, it was disclosed that Price chose to resign from his position last year.

As a dedicated enthusiast for over three decades at the helm of Insomniac, I realized it was the right moment to relinquish my position and give way to new voices within our team. Over the past year, I’ve been privileged to collaborate with the senior management at Insomniac in formulating a succession plan. I am confident this blueprint will ensure continuity, stability, and visionary leadership, enabling us to continue crafting experiences that our fans adore for many years to come.

Price is set to retire in March. As for Insomniac’s upcoming projects, Marvel’s Wolverine and at least one other game are currently being developed. Dezern expressed enthusiasm about Wolverine, but didn’t reveal whether it will be launched in 2025. Additionally, Schneider hinted at potential future film adaptations following the 2016 movie based on Ratchet & Clank.
