The 36th annual GLAAD Media Awards has announced its nominees, and EbMaster is honored with two nominations in the categories of exceptional print article (written by senior entertainment writer Adam B. Vary about Joe Locke) and overall magazine coverage.
In addition to “Wicked,” “Queer,” “Love Lies Bleeding,” “My Old Behind,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Hacks,” “What We Do in the Shadows,” “Fancy Dance,” “Mother of the Bride,” “Baby Reindeer,” “Selling Sunset,” “Queer Eye,” and “Real Housewives of New York City,” there are a total of 318 nominees spread across 33 different categories for this year’s awards.
Each year, the GLAAD Media Awards celebrates exemplary, authentic, and diverse portrayals of LGBTQ+ individuals and themes across various media platforms such as movies, TV shows, video games, books, plays, music, news outlets, and beyond.
Sarah Kate Ellis, president and CEO of GLAAD, stated that the GLAAD Media Awards were established almost four decades ago to amplify LGBTQ narratives during a time when our community faced significant hostility and danger. Today, this objective remains relevant and crucial as attacks against LGBTQ individuals continue to escalate and diversify. These attacks can take the form of widespread misinformation, transphobic slurs, or corporate policy reversals that undermine visibility and safety in the workplace. However, what will always triumph is our authenticity and creativity. The nominees for this year’s 36th GLAAD Media Awards embody the richness of our community, encompassing various media, genres, and formats, and serve as a powerful and universal reminder to industry leaders that our tales are not just engaging, but essential and culture-shaping.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the GLAAD awards will recognize the 2024 WNBA Champions, New York Liberty, with special honors. Additionally, six other projects or entities, which may not conform to conventional GLAAD Media Awards categories, but undeniably demonstrate significant impact and contributions towards LGBTQ acceptance and visibility, will also be acknowledged.
The nominations for the 36th GLAAD Media Awards are based on media content that was published, released, or aired between January 1st and December 31st, 2024. This year’s event is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on March 27th, 2025.
