Netflix, in the midst of breaking subscription records, has increased its prices yet again, leaving users less than enthusiastic.
Each passing year seems to bring higher subscription costs for streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and others, as they continue to request that we, the loyal viewers, shell out more money in exchange for an expanding array of exclusive movies, series, and other content.
Regardless of already being the costliest streaming service in numerous regions, Netflix revealed on January 21, 2025 its intention to increase subscription fees yet again.
Netflix raises cost yet again despite record-breaking subscriber increase
In order to keep enhancing our services and provide greater worth to our subscribers, there may be times when we request an increase in membership fees, which will help us reinvest and continue improving Netflix,” the company explained in a note to investors.
In the first quarter of 2024, I was quite surprised to notice an unexpected hike in my Netflix subscription fee. Interestingly enough, this rise coincided with their announcement of a record-breaking gain – a staggering 19 million new users added to their platform, pushing the total subscribers over the 300 million mark!
Netflix is raising their subscription fees. For the ad-tier, it will go from $6.99 to $7.99. The standard plan will increase from $15.49 to $17.99, and the premium plan will rise from $22.99 to $24.99.

Changes in pricing will affect all levels of Netflix’s subscription plans. The cost of standard memberships will go up from $15.49 to $17.99, while a standard account with ads will rise from $6.99 to $7.99. Lastly, the platform’s premium tier will see an increase from $22.99 to $24.99.
In late 2023, Netflix adjusted its pricing and service structure, followed by a significant focus on curbing password sharing in 2024.
All in all, this price hike represents the eighth time Netflix has increased its prices throughout its history. Initially, a Basic Plan was available for just $7.99 USD each month. However, the priciest package now costs up to $24.99 USD per month.
Consequently, the revised prices for our services are now in place, meaning you might notice a higher amount being deducted from your account during your upcoming Netflix billing cycle.
Online users haven’t hesitated to voice their opinions about the recent price hike on various social media sites like the old-known platform X (previously Twitter), openly sharing their discontent.
One user is strongly contemplating cancelling their Netflix subscription due to the frequent price increases, stating that it seems they prioritize earning every penny of profit over reducing costs.
As a gamer, I’ve been finding myself spending more and more on Netflix, but I barely watch it these days. It seems like every time I log in, they’re raising the prices again. And to make matters worse, they keep cancelling shows that I actually enjoy watching. It feels like my money is just going down the drain with them.

I too am wondering about where my money is being spent and expressing concerns over the decision-making process that leads to the cancellation of beloved series. It seems like more content could be preserved instead.
Initially, when the price hike followed the announcement of a subscription increase, I too joined the chorus of those calling the platform a “jest.” However, upon further reflection and considering other factors, my perspective has shifted.
Netflix credits the surge in their platform’s popularity to the highly anticipated Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul boxing encounter in November, 2024. This historic match attracted a vast audience, ultimately making it the most streamed sports event ever recorded.
Furthermore, Netflix’s latest purchase of streaming rights for the popular WWE program Monday Night RAW is not only attracting a large audience but also boosting their platform. Meanwhile, anticipation for Squid Game Season 2 continues to surge as well.
