Microsoft Edge Now Features This Popular Steam-Like Feature

Towards the end of last year, Microsoft unveiled its intention to position Edge as the go-to browser for PC gamers with a sneak peek at the Microsoft Edge Game Assist. This edition of Edge has been tailored for gaming, allowing browsers and windows to float above games so players can easily access strategy guides and helpful tips during gameplay. Now, Microsoft Edge Game Assist has emerged from its initial testing stage and is ready for everyone to utilize.

Game Assist seems to have been designed based on Steam’s overlay browser function. This tool can identify when a few compatible games are running and display related information in a sidebar. Currently, Marvel Rivals, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard are among the supported games. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that other games can still be played; only the supported ones will have readily available walkthrough guides. The video below provides an explanation of how Game Assist operates.

Users can reach this function by navigating to Microsoft Edge, then clicking on the Settings and more option to discover the Game Assist widget. Upon installation, the Game Assist feature will become accessible within the Game Bar. Since Game Assist syncs data with Edge’s browser information, users’ bookmarks, browsing history, and cookies will stay consistent.

As reported by The Verge, Game Assist is currently in a preliminary phase and additional game titles will be supported later on. This development is part of Microsoft’s broader aspirations within the gaming industry, which involve integrating all PC games with Xbox features into the Xbox app. Notably, last year, Microsoft initiated a test program for Game Pass Ultimate members to stream certain owned games directly onto Xbox consoles.
