Previously enveloped in secrecy, one of YouTube’s most popular drama channels, Spill Sesh, has decided to step out from the shadows. For years, she kept her true identity concealed. Now, in an exclusive chat with TopMob, she expresses a desire for greater self-revelation and expanded horizons.

Back in 2018, Kristi Cook, known as Spill Sesh on YouTube, embarked on her channel journey. She’s long been fascinated by the lives of influencers, but her friends weren’t quite tuned into the online content scene yet.

She shared with us that during her time in middle and high school, she spent hours watching numerous videos on YouTube. What struck her as peculiar was the lack of meaningful conversation or discussion around those influencers.

That term wasn’t familiar to me when I was in middle school; it originated from internet videos that I found myself deeply engrossed in. I would often discuss these video creators’ lives with my friends, who were puzzled because they didn’t know who I was referring to. It felt like there must have been a community of people who shared the same interest as me. Unsurprisingly, these individuals have millions of subscribers.

Spill Sesh ‘spills’ on her rise to YouTube stardom

In no time at all, Cook happened upon an intimate group of individuals discussing YouTube personalities online, which was where she discovered her purpose.

She put it simply, “I realized it was necessary,” she said, referring to her intention to discuss the rumors on the internet.

Within a span of just one year, her videos gained immense popularity, becoming a must-watch for those following influencer gossip. Cook looks back at 2019 as the year when she truly skyrocketed to fame, alluding to the drama that unfolded within the YouTube beauty community involving James Charles, Jeffree Star, and Tati Westbrook.

She reminisced that things initially took off discussing the beauty scene back then, but as there was much turmoil within, it shifted towards reporting celebrity controversies. Then, with the advent of TikTok, discussions expanded to include popular TikTok personalities.

A moment ago, I found myself sharing thoughts, ‘I’m genuinely intrigued by discussing influencers and current events. Perhaps others might find it interesting as well.’

2019 saw a flurry of significant events for Cook, as she claims that her initial viral sensation stemmed from her reporting on the well-known argument between Trisha Paytas and David Dobrik.

She remarked, “She removed that video just then, but I’d already saved a copy beforehand.” Feeling compelled, she exclaimed, “I must do something with this immediately.” It was one of the initial instances when one of her videos gained significant attention, and she thought, “Wow, this is amazing! I need to keep going. I need to continue creating content.

Following the onset of the worldwide health predicament, people were compelled to stay at home. This unexpected turn of events led to an increase in online arguments or dramas, a shift that Cook believes significantly altered the essence of the internet and, surprisingly, catapulted influencers into the spotlight.

In essence, TikTok significantly shaped internet culture during that period. It appears that many people had more time on their hands, which led them to pay closer attention to online content creators. Many influential figures who are well-known today actually gained popularity through TikTok during this time. In my opinion, TikTok’s surge in popularity in 2020 served to legitimize the entire influencer industry.

F*ck it, mask off

As a gamer for over six years, I’ve been creating videos under the alias Spill Sesh, known across the internet as the anonymous tea-spiller. For most of my career, I chose to maintain my anonymity. That all changed on November 3, 2023, when I revealed my true identity to the world. This decision ignited a whirlwind of reactions from both my loyal viewers and critics alike.

Even though her job type might expose her to harassment risks, Cook surprisingly felt a sense of relief upon her big disclosure.

Prior to revealing my face, I was excessively concerned about such matters, which might seem puzzling to others as they would think, ‘Why worry when your identity is already known?’

Initially, when I wasn’t well-known, I felt apprehensive because if people disliked a video, they might delve as deeply as possible to discover my identity. This seemed to generate curiosity. Therefore, unveiling my identity brought more relief than anything else.

Fortunately, no one has become enraged enough to search for my location following my disclosure. To be honest, most of the concerns I had seemed quite exaggerated prior to this event.

Getting blocked by Jeffree Star

Although her major unveiling generally received favorable feedback, Cook occasionally encounters upset followers in her private messages. Fortunately, she’s never experienced excessive backlash from an influencer’s fan base; however, she has been blocked by a well-known personality whom she felt comfortable identifying publicly.

She acknowledged that individuals have reached out to her private messages to justify themselves, though not in a hostile manner. However, many people might assume that someone who creates videos discussing celebrities or influencers dislikes them. Yet, she believes there’s an aspect to it where these individuals understand that, whether the attention is positive or negative, publicity helps maintain their relevance in some way.

Jeffree Star is the only person who’s ever blocked me. I doubt he recalls the circumstances as he seemed to be quite fond of the ‘block’ feature at that moment.

What was the purpose behind unveiling the secret after all these years of working incognito as an insider in influencer conflicts? Kristi, having honed her skills during her time with TMZ, sought to expand her horizons and leverage her past experiences to aim higher and achieve greater success.

She expressed that, given all these years, she felt a strong desire to explore new endeavors beyond creating YouTube videos, which was her main reason for this change.

I certainly have projects in progress, and I’m eager to discuss them with you in the near future. This year, I’m aiming to launch a project, broadening my creative scope beyond my YouTube channel and brief videos. I’m genuinely excited to explore more avenues of expression.
