Overwatch 2 players say new “personalized” shop options aren’t “personalized” at all

Players of Overwatch 2 are expressing dissatisfaction with the recent addition of Maximilien’s Vault shop, which was included in the mid-season patch of Season 14.

In simple terms, the midseason update in Overwatch 2’s season 14 introduced balance tweaks, fresh skins, and previews of a revamped 6v6 game mode test and an upcoming Overwatch Classic event. However, what really grabbed the attention of cosmetic enthusiasts is the introduction of the new Maximilien’s Vault shop.

Maximilien’s Loot Chest is an innovative retail idea, reminiscent of the “Night Market” in Valorant or “Item Shop” in League of Legends. Essentially, it offers special deals on character skins that players often choose to use.

It appears that users on social media are expressing concerns about problems with the initial release of Maximilien’s Vault.

Overwatch 2’s personalized skins aren’t so personalized

Users have been expressing concerns that the custom skins they get don’t correspond with the characters they primarily play. Furthermore, it appears that the Random Number Generation (RNG) system tends to favor awarding multiple discounted skins for one or two heroes, instead of a diverse range of different heroes.

One player jokingly commented, “Apparently customized for my gameplay,” but in reality, I received five Ana character skins and I hardly ever play her.

After the game store’s launch, it wasn’t uncommon for me to find myself receiving discounts on characters I rarely, if ever, used. Scrolling through online forums, I saw numerous threads detailing this exact issue. In fact, one player put it quite bluntly: “I knew the shop was going to be a dud because my ‘Just For You’ tab is overflowing with items for heroes I never play.

It was found out that by rolling skins you already possess, you could inadvertently occupy a store space within Maximilian’s Shop. Interestingly, most of these duplicated skins appear to have been acquired through Xbox Game Pass, which grants temporary use of specific skins from the previous three seasons.

Some gamers have mentioned that each and every slot for items they had in their shops on Xbox Game Pass was filled with skins, leaving them unable to buy those skins again or receive future discounts on them permanently.

One user expressed uncertainty, suggesting that maybe they hadn’t considered the consequences since all the in-game cosmetics given to them were already part of their Game Pass subscription.

So far, responses to Maximilien’s Vault have been relatively low. Blizzard has yet to clarify exactly how the Random Number Generation (RNG) operates for acquiring skins from this store; however, if there seems to be an issue with the shop mechanics, Blizzard is likely to address these concerns in future shops as they become available.
