Tom Blyth Boards Claire Denis’ ‘The Cry of the Guards’

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be watching Tom Blyth (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes”) in Claire Denis’ upcoming production titled “The Cry of the Guards.” Joining him is an impressive ensemble, including Mia McKenna-Bruce, Matt Dillon, and Isaach De Bankolé. This four-handed drama promises a captivating cinematic experience!

The movie, based on Bernard-Marie Koltes’ play “Black Battles With Dogs,” was penned by Denis, Suzanne Lindon, and Andrew Litvack. The narrative unfolds during a single night in Senegal, close to a construction site, where laborers encounter a man who demands justice for his brother’s demise at that location.

The movie is being jointly made by Curiosa Films, Vixens, Goodfellas, and Saint Laurent Productions, as well as Astou Production from Senegal, and it’s also backed by Arte France Cinema.

Lately, Blyth has wrapped up his acting role as the main character in “People We Meet on Vacation,” a Netflix, Sony 3000, and Temple Hill production, which is an adaptation of the top-ranking New York Times novel written by Emily Henry.

Before that shoot, he had completed three consecutive projects:

1. The independent feature “Plainclothes,” written and directed by Carmen Emmi and starring Russell Tovey, which is a true story about undercover officers trapping gay men, scheduled to premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

2. The gritty prison drama “Wasteman” alongside David Jonsson, written and directed by Calum Macdiarmid for Agile Films, Lionsgate UK and Bankside.

3. The much-anticipated film adaptation of the popular Ubisoft video game “Watch Dogs,” featuring Sophie Wilde, under the direction of French genre director Mathieu Turi, for New Regency.

In 2023, Blyth gained significant recognition by stepping into the iconic role of young Coriolanus Snow, a character previously played by Donald Sutherland in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” This Lionsgate production, featuring Rachel Zegler, Viola Davis, and Peter Dinklage, generated over $300 million at the global box office.

This coming spring, Blyth is set to carry on playing the lead character in the third season of “Billy the Kid,” which will debut on MGM+. Additionally, the actor previously appeared alongside Jack Lowden in “Benediction,” a film helmed by Terrence Davies.

Blyth is managed by a combination of four agencies: MJ Management, Gersh, United Agents (in the UK), and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
