Electronic Arts To Close Down EA Origin App For Windows, macOS In April 2025

Last week, Electronic Arts (EA) shared an update about their digital platform, EA Origin, on their official support site. Initially introduced for Windows PCs and macOS in June 2011, EA supported the application until it was phased out for Windows systems in favor of the new EA App launched in October 2022.

Regrettably, we must bid farewell to an era as EA Origin will soon cease operation for Windows PC and macOS systems. This is due to a software compatibility problem. Players have been advised to visit separate support pages for each platform to verify their devices and download the EA App to prevent losing their game libraries.

On January 17th, 2025, an update was posted on the EA Support page announcing that the EA Origin platform will be discontinued in the near future. The publisher has confirmed that as of April 17th, 2025, the EA Origin application will cease to function. This decision is due to Microsoft and Apple ending their support for 32-bit software.

As a fellow gaming enthusiast who’s still using EA Origin on 32-bit software, I’d like to share some important advice: Consider updating to the EA app for a smoother experience. However, this newer application necessitates running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you’re unsure about your current setup, Microsoft has provided a helpful guide. To check, simply right-click on your Start menu, navigate to your PC Settings menu, select the ‘System’ option, and then scroll down to the ‘About’ tab. This will tell you what software is running on your device.

To obtain crucial details about their Windows system, users should search for the “System type” or current Windows version under the “Device Specifications.” Many, if not all, Windows 10 devices are compatible with 64-bit software versions, and they can access the EA App once upgraded. However, those who own devices that only run 32-bit software must first update or upgrade their systems to be compatible.

Similarly, Mac users can discover their device specifications by clicking on the Apple logo in the top left corner of their screen and then selecting “About This Mac.” This action opens a pop-up window. Next, they should click on the “System Report” option and navigate to the “Hardware” tab next to the Processor Name. This will provide information about whether their device is using an Intel processor or Apple Silicon, which runs 64-bit software.

If their Mac computer uses an Intel chip, they can refer to this Apple Support page about Intel processors and compare it with their device details to confirm if they’re running 32-bit or 64-bit software. Also, Electronic Arts (EA) recommends that the EA app for macOS should run on Catalina 10.15.5 or later versions to ensure smooth operation.
