For their 75th anniversary, the Berlin International Film Festival will reveal all the films that will be shown, with screenings scheduled from February 13th through the 23rd.
2021’s festival will see the inaugural leadership of Tricia Tuttle as the artistic director, a role she previously held at the BFI London Film Festival. As we earlier mentioned, the event will kick off with “The Light,” directed by Tom Tykwer, who is making his return to cinema screens after seven years and four seasons spent working on the successful TV show “Babylon Berlin.
In the Berlinale Special section, Bong Joon Ho’s sci-fi black comedy “Mickey 17” featuring Robert Pattinson is set to be screened. This will be alongside Justin Kurzel’s World War II series titled “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” starring Jacob Elordi. Following its debut at Sundance, the drama “The Thing With Feathers,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch, will also be shown in Berlinale Special. Additionally, Min Kyu-dong’s film “The Old Woman With the Knife” and Anna Muylaert’s movie “The Best Mother in the World” are scheduled to screen here as well.
At this year’s Berlinale, a special showing is planned for Claude Lanzmann’s influential 1985 film “Shoah” about the Holocaust. This film, which took over a decade to create, includes interviews with survivors, witnesses, and participants of the events. The screening aligns with the debut of Guillaume Ribot’s movie “All I Had Was Nothingness,” which delves into the creation process behind this documentary.
The Panorama segment will kick off playing “Welcome Home Baby” by Andreas Prochaska, followed by a collection of 34 films hailing from 28 different nations. The Generation category, centered around youth-themed movies, will present “Christy” directed by Brendan Canty and “The Nature of Invisible Things,” created by Rafaela Camelo.
In this year’s competition, Todd Haynes, the director of “May December,” is presiding as the jury president, while Tilda Swinton will be honored with the festival’s Golden Bear for her Lifetime Achievement.
The full lineup will appear below, updating live.
