LoL players call for boycott following free Hextech Chest removal

According to League of Legends players, Riot Games’ decision to stop them from earning free Hextech Chests feels like the final issue that pushes them over the edge.

Launching League of Legends Season 2025 ushered in numerous modifications across the gameplay, and one alteration that sparked significant discontent among players was taking away the complimentary Hextech Chests.

Earlier, players were able to open new game chests without any additional charges. However, as of Season 2025, these chests can now only be obtained by purchasing them with RP from the in-game store.

The unexpected shift has sparked more anger among players, as they bid adieu to their final free loot boxes. Many believe this could mark the end of their journey with the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game.

LoL fans think “it is time to boycott” over free Hextech Chests

One player from League, who had been stashing away numerous free chests over the past year, expressed disappointment upon hearing about the Season 2025 modifications.

As a passionate League gamer, I can’t help but feel disheartened by their choice – it’s a move that ranks among the worst decisions in the game’s history. I sincerely hope they reconsider and restore the weekly chests with mastery, just like we had before.

In the discussion, many voices express a common feeling of intensity and passion. Notably, some individuals believe that while there’s been an abundance of heated social media comments and player complaint submissions, these actions might not be sufficient to address the issue effectively.

One comment suggests, ‘Now, let’s take action by not buying their products. They seem more concerned about making money, even removing a small item occasionally. The only language they understand is money, so we can make them hear us by choosing where we spend ours, or in other words, voting with our wallet.’

Additionally, many others found this alteration to be their final tipping point, hence they’ve decided to switch to other gaming experiences instead.

On the other hand, not all members within the League of Legends (LoL) community are confident that boycotting Hextech Chests will be effective, as previous efforts to withhold support have not been universally backed.

Someone stated that the brief $500 Ahri ban protest, which ended in just three days, won’t be effective unless popular content creators continue to make videos about the removal of this free reward. They believe that pros or influential YouTubers need to keep talking about it.

Even with the current backlash, it doesn’t appear that Riot will be course-correcting anytime soon.
