1923 Season 1 concluded with an exciting disclosure concerning Alexandra’s genuine lineage, and actress Julia Schlaepfer wishes to share insights on how this revelation impacts Alex in Season 2.
In the Season 1 finale, it came as an equally stunning revelation to Spencer that his wife, Alex, is actually the Countess of Sussex – a discovery that left us all equally astounded. This unexpected twist was made even more jaw-dropping due to the lack of hints throughout the storyline, and because Alex didn’t seem like someone who belonged in British royal circles.
It’s interesting to note that even Julia Schlaepfer, a prominent figure in 1923, expressed surprise when she learned about Alex’s connection to the royal family as well.

As I delved into the filming of Season 1 alongside Brandon [Sklenar] in Africa, I found myself so engrossed in our unfolding love tale that at times, I almost forgot I was acting. It’s amusing to recall those moments, as if I were truly living this grand romance instead of portraying it.
Schlaepfer went on to say, “I believe Alexandra has chosen to distance herself from her royal status as she doesn’t desire the title. Instead, she prefers not to be confined like a caged bird.
It’s the rigidity of Royal life and expectations that Alex rejects, she explained:
She’s been heavily burdened by this family, who refuse to give her freedom to choose her own path in life or the liberty to love whom she wishes. As soon as she encounters Spencer and discovers an escape route, she swiftly departs from the situation, leaving it all behind.
It transpired that Schlaepfer became so engrossed in Alex’s storyline that she too got swept away by it. She even admitted to being a bit taken aback when they revealed the royal secret at the end of Season 1, as one tends to forget such details during the narrative journey!
Alex has decided to move on from her previous family life, as she has now made a choice to become a member of the Dutton family by marrying Spencer. Her primary focus is to dedicate herself and demonstrate loyalty to her new spouse and this newly adopted family.
At the conclusion of Season 1, fans are eagerly anticipating that Alex and Spencer’s journey back together won’t be overly demanding. This hope intensifies if it’s true that their family might expand in the future, as some fans speculate.
