In December last year, Sony unveiled a new live-streaming tournament series called “PlayStation Tournaments: XP.” This event features elite players from various regions worldwide competing at both local and international levels. The inaugural edition of this live studio and in-person competition was hosted in London, UK, and was broadcasted live on the official PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels on 18th January 2025.
In the PlayStation Tournaments, teams were vying for points in four main games: Tekken 8, Fortnite, EA Sports FC 25, and Astro Bot. The unique selling point of Astro Bot was a fresh, new speedrunning stage that piqued the interest of fans, as there have been whispers online about when this new stage will be available for the platform game. However, the developers at Team Asobi have remained silent on the matter.

On January 18th, 2025, Astro Bot was the featured game at the PlayStation Tournaments: XP in London. In a thrilling showdown, players from Teams Circle and Square competed on an exclusive speedrun stage not found within the game itself. The objective of this unique stage was for each team’s competitors to achieve the quickest “completion time” to secure victory in the final match. Ultimately, Team Circle emerged victorious.
In this speedrun level, Astro used a special skill called slow motion (slow-mo) to temporarily pause time, enabling it to navigate over hurdles, and an umbrella device with a floral design to aid its flight across platforms. This particular stage was adorned with numerous adversaries that increased the difficulty of Astro’s journey, especially when considering the slow-mo ability and the use of the umbrella gadget.
According to the commentators’ analysis, it’s unclear at this point if the speedrun stage will be incorporated into Astro Bot. However, its presence has definitely piqued the curiosity of other speedrunners. So, we’ll keep you posted on any updates regarding this speedrun stage and whether or not it might be added to Astro Bot as more information is revealed by the developer or PlayStation.
