Keisuke Oishi has been appointed as the new head of Prime Video in Japan, starting from January 20th. This seasoned Amazon executive, who was previously the director and manager general of Amazon Music Japan, will now report directly to Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President of Prime Video for Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa. He is taking over from Kodama Takashi.
With a decade of experience under his belt from working at Amazon, starting in 2014 after previously being with Sony Corporation, Oishi has advanced through the ranks at Amazon Japan. His roles have been pivotal, including leading the software and video game department and directing the entertainment media division, where he managed Amazon’s packaged media business across various entertainment sectors.

In the dynamic Asian streaming market, which is showing rapid growth, Japan ranks third in terms of speed, growing at a rate of 15% as per a recent Media Partners Asia study.
In essence, Prime Video Japan is not just a streaming service; it’s a platform that’s consistently pushing boundaries and adapting to the ever-evolving needs of its audience.
In a message sent to the Prime Video Asia Pacific team, Gandhi conveyed his enthusiasm regarding the platform’s progress in Japan. He mentioned that Prime Video has achieved remarkable success with its content and experienced substantial growth in customers from Japan over the past few years, all thanks to the team’s hard work, creativity, and dedication to the customer. Furthermore, he expressed continued excitement about the service’s strategies and projects for the year 2025.
In the year 2024, Amazon’s Prime Video launched original content exclusively in Southeast Asia, leaving countries like Japan and India unaffected. According to a statement made by Gandhi at that time, there was no shift in our investment priorities in other APAC regions, which includes Japan and India.
Takeshi Kitano’s newest movie, “Broken Rage,” is scheduled for a worldwide release on Prime Video in February, marking its debut.
