Dave Chappelle delivered an extended monologue during Saturday Night Live, setting a new record for longest stand-up performance. The 17-minute set covered various topics such as Palestine and the upcoming Trump presidency. Unlike his previous stand-up acts which were criticized for transphobia, this one focused heavily on Jimmy Carter. Chappelle reminisced about visiting the Middle East after Chappelle’s Show, around the same time as Carter. He recalled, “While I was there, Jimmy Carter said he wanted to visit the Palestinian territory, and the Israeli government warned it was too dangerous. But man, Jimmy Carter went anyway.” The memorable moment for Chappelle was seeing thousands of Palestinians cheer on a former American president who went unprotected by security.

Dave Chappelle concluded by appealing sincerely to President-elect Trump, urging him to heed his wife’s motto and strive to “Be Your Best”. He emphasized, “Regardless of who voted for you or against you, everyone is relying on you. Whether they support you or not, everyone is relying on you. The entire world is counting on your leadership.”

In a genuine tone, he added, “I genuinely mean this when I say it – good luck. Try harder next time. I urge all of us to do better in the future. Do not lose sight of your compassion and empathy for those who are displaced, whether they’re living in the Palisades or Palestine.
