Elizabeth Nissen, Veteran ABC News Correspondent, Dies at 71

On January 7th, Elizabeth Nissen, a seasoned reporter for ABC News, passed away in Ann Arbor, Michigan, just three days after celebrating her birthday. She was 71 years old.

Initially, ABC News announced and subsequently verified Nissen’s passing; however, they did not disclose the reason for his demise.

Over the course of her distinguished journalistic journey spanning multiple decades, Nissen has been associated with various prestigious platforms. As a news correspondent, she reported on events ranging from conflicts to sports, science, and art for CNN and the public television network WGBH. Additionally, she has contributed to print media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek.

At ABC, one of her most significant assignments involved appearing on “Nightline” and “World News Tonight.” Particularly, she gained widespread recognition for her “World News Tonight” report on the night when Princess Diana tragically passed away in 1997.

Apart from his role as a co-founder, Nissen served as the senior producer at NBC Learn, an organization that offers instructional video content to students and educators.

Beth, in her obituary, is described as a dedicated lifelong reader, learner, and educator with a deep-seated passion for making complex information accessible and understandable. Her goal was to cultivate critical thinking skills in her students and assist teachers in refining their methods and strategies for enhanced instructional effectiveness.

The obituary commemorated her for her quick-wittedness, vast knowledge, her heartfelt empathy, and her dedication to fostering friendships via lengthy personal letters. Additionally, it noted that she was a dedicated caregiver, an active participant in her local Rotary Club, and a respected member of “The Adelphies” group at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor.

Nissen leaves behind five brothers and sisters, and has nine nieces and nephews. Currently, there are no plans for a memorial service as per Nissen’s wishes.
