In the first episode of Severance Season 2, there are many hidden references, but a minor detail that might have gone unnoticed is an obscure character in the backdrop. (Be aware: spoilers follow!)
Either Helly’s unusual actions or hints related to Ms. Casey’s mystery, Severance Season 2 has quickly introduced a fresh batch of puzzling plot twists, keeping viewers hooked and intrigued on Apple TV+.
To start off, Mark finds himself back inside his inner self’s body at Lumon, and he quickly sets off sprinting through the corridors in search of Ms. Casey. Upon discovering her office appears to be missing, he makes a return trip to the MDR room. However, upon arriving, he encounters a completely different group of employees where Helly, Irving, and Dylan once were.
However, a minor aspect in the setting may have initially escaped notice, yet it could subtly suggest a foreboding future event.
The blurry figure behind Mark in Severance isn’t Milchick
In the first episode of Season 2, there’s a scene where Mark is shown in what used to be Ms. Casey’s Wellness room. If you pay attention, you’ll notice a faint, obscured figure lurking behind him at one point. This figure vanishes later on, but it’s evident that they were keeping a close eye on Mark – whoever this person might be.
At first glance, it could seem as though Milchick was overseeing the situation. But, as the story unfolded in the episode, a crucial detail emerged: Milchick was dressed quite differently from the enigmatic figure, who was sporting a dark suit and white shirt instead of Milchick’s original attire.

Instead, theories are emerging about who this might be. Particularly, some suspect it’s Granner, the former Head of Security on the Severed floor from Season 1, who met a tragic end.
One Reddit user posed this idea: “Proposed as a potential new character. He’s being credited as ‘the man in the hallway.’ Another Redditor mused, ‘Could there be a replacement for Graner?’
Another person mentioned that the character is a fresh addition,” said someone. “Apparently, the actor portraying this character will have a recurring part throughout season two.
Alternatively, some people argue that it might indeed be Granger who is responsible for this, as one user put it, “I wouldn’t be surprised at all. They seem capable of transferring a consciousness into reanimated bodies.” (Gemma/Ms.Casey)
“I thought it was Milkshake,” one comment maintained. “I never questioned if it was anyone else.”
One individual proposed, “An even more daring move… A member of the resistance questioning whether Kier can rely on Mark.
