In Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, like other games in the series, you’ll find a vast open world. However, what sets this game apart is that it offers not just the usual travel and exploration, but also an opportunity for its main characters, Naoe and Yasuke, to pause and admire nature. This is done by incorporating an artistic element where they create pieces of art.
During a detailed discussion on the gameplay mechanics of exploration, Ubisoft revealed that players can engage in creative activities like having Naoe or Yasuke craft artwork. While this activity doesn’t provide a combat advantage, it offers a fulfilling experience for these characters.
Alongside their quests and missions, both characters – Yasuke and Naoe – have unique activities tailored specifically to them. For instance, Yasuke might seek out masters who can further educate him on the intricacies of his Kata, a skill that grants him exceptional combat moves in-game. Conversely, Naoe may immerse herself in Kuji-kiri meditation, which provides insights into her past and enriches her character’s backstory.
In this captivating game, Ubisoft has cleverly emphasized the significance of scouts as valuable allies for Naoe and Yasuke. These recruits serve as our eyes and feet, guiding us through crucial locations in the game’s world without requiring us to tread every single path ourselves. Scouts also offer a strategic advantage by stealthily raiding enemy strongholds one-by-one, ensuring their targets may not even realize they’re under attack until it’s too late. The resources gained from these scout raids can then be used to customize our safe houses. Furthermore, scouts provide an invaluable service by helping us cancel provisional alerts if either character finds themselves in hot water due to breaking the law.
In Shadows, viewpoints are back with new adjustments. Now, players can identify distant areas by climbing tall structures and utilizing the 360-degree survey feature. This feature will then pinpoint significant locations on your map for you.
Just like earlier, perspectives can unlock fast-travel destinations; however, remember not all these spots are secure. Some fast-travel locations might be under enemy control, leading to confrontations if they detect your characters have suddenly appeared without warning.
For those who may need more guidance on their journey, the Pathfinder tool is a handy option when riding a horse. Just like navigation tools in Grand Theft Auto games that help keep characters moving towards their goal, this feature ensures you’re on the right path to your chosen destination.
There’s been talk that Assassin’s Creed Shadows could be making its way to Switch 2, but for now, this is just a rumor without any confirmation. Interestingly, the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been pushed back again, and it’s now set to launch on March 20. This game will be playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and personal computers.
