In a turn of events, the court case involving the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s trademark dispute against Logan Paul and KSI for their business, Prime Hydration, was dropped only half a year later.
In July 2024, Prime Hydration entered into an agreement with basketball star, Kevin Durant, and as part of this collaboration, they launched a special edition bottle of their well-known sports beverage.
On the reverse side of the bottle, Prime incorporated several references to Kevin Durant’s Olympic victories along with the phrases “Team USA Kevin Durant Beverage” and “Kevin Durant’s Olympic Prime Drink.
Two weeks following this, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee filed a trademark lawsuit, claiming that the use of “Olympic-related terminology” and trademarks on product packaging, online ads, and promotions involving a Prime Hydration flavor and athlete Kevin Durant was in violation of their intellectual property rights.
Six months ago, the court dismissed the lawsuit that was ongoing between Prime and the USOPC.
Prime Hydration Olympic trademark lawsuit settled out of court
In December, lawyers for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee submitted documents asking for a pause in the ongoing motion to dismiss, as both parties were finalizing a “private settlement agreement.
The court was requested to postpone the case for a period of 45 days, culminating on Thursday, January 15th, at which point the court formally terminated the case.
As I, the gaming enthusiast, read through the document, I came across this bit: “The above-mentioned issue has been dismissed, without the possibility of re-filing, with both parties responsible for their respective legal fees and expenses.
This recent Prime Hydration lawsuit dismissal is not the initial one we’ve seen over the past few months, yet it’s by far the swiftest resolution we’ve witnessed so far.
In an exciting update I stumbled upon last October, YouTube sensation Logan Paul shared that the PFAS lawsuit he faced starting from 2023 had been officially dropped. He described the lawsuit as “frivolous” and “baseless.
Meanwhile, Paul mentioned that along with this, a court case alleging the company had misrepresented the caffeine level in Prime Energy had been dismissed as well.
