With the debut of the first episode from Severance Season 2 (additional episodes on the horizon), we might have uncovered a sneak peek into potential plot developments for the show’s forthcoming narrative.

The Apple TV+ show “Severance” experienced a gap of several years before the release of its second season, due to factors such as major national crises and a strong focus on achieving the perfect storyline during its production phase.

In the narrative, I found myself grappling with the ripple effects of a massive wave of Hollywood walkouts, which left quite an impression on the creation of countless movies and shows, including the much-anticipated second season of ‘Severance.’

Dan Erickson, the creator of the show, hinted at the possibility that events from Season 2, which were disrupted by strikes and focused on Innie’s struggle against poor workplace conditions, could potentially be explored in Severance Season 3, giving fans a glimpse into what might unfold.

Future Severance plotlines might be affected by the strikes

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Severance’s creator, Dan Erickson, spoke about the multiple ways real-life crises influenced his creative process, and hinted at potential themes for Season 3 that could be inspired by such events.

In creating Season 1, we were unsure about how returning to work would feel once the world began reopening and after spending such a long time working remotely. This experience significantly impacted our writing process for Season 2.

Erickson explained that Season 2 wasn’t merely influenced by varying work styles, but also by the discussions stemming from those experiences. He further noted that returning to work altered how people communicated about their jobs, including debating the amount of personal commitment they owe to their employer and what they should receive in return.

The discussions at the national level found their indirect inclusion in the series, according to Erickson. He also suggested that these talks sparked the wave of Hollywood strikes. “Though not a direct cause-and-effect relationship, I believe such dialogues contributed to events like strikes and people rethinking what work should entail. This perspective was woven into the narrative… Season 2 tackled many issues that mirrored the experiences of Season 1 in real life.

For Season 3, there’s no denying that it has been somewhat enigmatic up until now. However, if we were to contemplate its future development, certain experiences from past labor disputes, such as being on a picket line and advocating for improved conditions, naturally seep into our creative process and influence the direction of the show’s narrative.

For now, it’s uncertain how Season 2 will conclude or what the Innie resistance will entail, along with Lumon’s reaction. However, there may be an Innie strike ahead. Rest assured, Mark S. and his team will cause even more chaos in Season 2.

In simple terms, the debut of the initial episode for Severance’s second season is now available on Apple TV+, featuring a total of ten episodes this season, with both Season 3 and beyond already planned.
