Film director Sierra Falconer, who is set to unveil her first full-length movie at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival, has secured representation with WME.
At the 41st annual gathering of the Utah Film Conference, which was established by Robert Redford, the short film “Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake)” created by a UCLA graduate was chosen for the US dramatic competition. This film intricately combines four intertwined narratives that span over a summer’s time, revolving around an enchanting lake in Northern Michigan.
Growing up, I spent my summers at Green Lake in rural northern Michigan. Right from the beginning, it was clear to me that my debut film would be a depiction of this unique location,” Falconer explains to EbMaster. She further notes that her movie encapsulates subtle yet impactful instances of connection, all set within a shared feeling of belongingness.
The storyline of “Sunfish” revolves around a young girl forming a special connection with her grandparents through sailing, as well as two sisters enjoying their final days managing a bed-and-breakfast. The film is marketed as an emotionally resonant depiction of transformation, personal growth, and camaraderie. The talented cast includes Maren Heary (“She Said”), Jim Kaplan (“The Holdovers”), Karsen Liotta (“Black Bird”), Dominic Bogart (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Tenley Kellogg (“Faith Under Fire”) and Emily Hall (“Loot”).
In another boost for emerging talent Falconer, esteemed British filmmaker Joanna Hogg has joined the team of “Sunfish” as an executive producer. Known for her extensive experience in global film festivals, Hogg has directed movies such as “The Souvenir” duology, “The Eternal Daughter,” and “Archipelago.
Hogg expressed that Falconer’s movie left her profoundly moved, praising it as a “compelling portrayal of characters and stunning storytelling that resonated deeply within me.
