It’s a full moon at the box office.
In its initial Thursday screenings, the reboot of “Universal’s and Blumhouse’s ‘The Wolf Man'” has earned approximately $1.4 million. As it hits theaters this weekend, it will compete against Sony’s comedy “One of Them Days,” which took in around $X million during its previews.
Over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, “Wolf Man,” directed by Leigh Whannell of “The Invisible Man” fame and featuring Christopher Abbott, is projected to lead the pack with earnings between $17 million and $21 million during its opening weekend. Meanwhile, “One of Them Days,” an R-rated comedy starring Keke Palmer and debuting actress SZA, is anticipated to bring in around $8 million to $13 million from Friday through Monday.
Universal is delving back into its collection of timeless monsters by releasing “The Wolf Man,” following the successful reboot of “The Invisible Man” which earned $28.2 million in its opening weekend and an additional $1.65 million during previews. The 2020 horror movie ultimately grossed a staggering $143 million globally. With a production budget of just $25 million, “The Wolf Man” is expected to generate profits at the box office. Apart from actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, “Ozark’s” Julia Garner takes on the role of a woman tormented by her husband’s transformation into a werewolf.
On one of those challenging days, I found myself in a unique comedic production titled “One of Them Days.” In this film, I play one of the friends, alongside Grammy-winning artist SZA. We’re best friends who, in a desperate bid to avoid eviction, go to extreme lengths to gather enough rent money. This heartfelt comedy is produced by Issa Rae and features an impressive cast that includes Katt Williams, Janelle James, Maude Apatow, among others. With a modest production budget of just $14 million, it sets a comfortably achievable benchmark for success.
