Nintendo Switch 2 trailer reveals game-changing joycon feature perfect for FPS

At last, the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 has been unveiled, and it appears that a groundbreaking feature is indeed true based on the trailer.

Following several months of rumors about the potential Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, the Japanese company officially unveiled the console last Thursday, the 16th of January.

In a first look provided by Nintendo, the design of the Switch 2 seems to be larger in size with a more prominent screen, and it features joy-con controllers that now connect magnetically to the device, replacing the current rail system.

Additionally, it appears the trailer suggests a potential new function for the console, since it demonstrates the Joy-Cons moving across the table much like a computer mouse.

Nintendo Switch 2 reveal teases optical sensor in the joycons

Similar to how the Joy-Con attachments on the Nintendo Switch 1 simplify pressing the SL and SR buttons, it appears that the Nintendo Switch 2’s trailer suggests a fresh console feature has been introduced.

Instead of placing the attachment on the side of the controller for horizontal holding, like a computer mouse, the Switch 2 joycons are designed to fit inside and glide across the table horizontally.

The new information agrees with earlier leaks about the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers, suggesting they may incorporate an optical sensor. This could potentially set apart the upcoming next-gen hybrid console from its previous version by offering a unique feature.

While it’s yet to be revealed specifically how Nintendo intends to utilize the mouse-joycon, there are several strategies they might employ to captivate consumers.

Last year, Microsoft expressed their intention to bring Call of Duty to the Nintendo Switch, along with similar first-person shooter (FPS) games such as Splatoon. With potential improvements like adding a mouse for enhanced gameplay, these titles could be exceptionally well-suited for the hypothetical Nintendo Switch 2.

Strategy games with numerous menus such as Fire Emblem and Civilization could greatly benefit from a mouse when played on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s been confirmed that the developers of Civilization 7 have already planned a release for this platform.

This new feature also offers potential for resurrecting some beloved Nintendo intellectual properties from the past, such as the well-known Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) game, Mario Paint.
