Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Hints At A New Mario Kart

For the past year, there’s been much debate about which games could debut with the upcoming Nintendo console. Could it feature a sequel to Super Mario Odyssey like Super Mario Odyssey 2? Or perhaps Metroid Prime 4? Nintendo boasts an impressive roster of popular franchises. However, during today’s highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 unveiling, only one game was teased in the trailer.

The Nintendo Switch 2 might be launching with a brand new Mario Kart after eleven years.

Mario Kart 8 has climbed up the ranks to become the fifth best-selling video game in history, trailing closely behind heavyweights such as PUBG: Battlegrounds, Wii Sports, Grand Theft Auto V, and Minecraft. Despite being initially launched for the Wii U back in 2014, a good three years before Nintendo Switch’s debut, it stands as the latest installment of the beloved kart racing series. Transferred to the Nintendo Switch as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, its continued success is evident by its impressive sales figures. However, it would be an understatement not to acknowledge the enduring appeal and popularity of this franchise.

Today’s unveiling video for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 showcases the hardware as its main highlight. The new Nintendo console seems to feature magnetic joy-cons, a more substantial kick stand, and is generally larger in size compared to its predecessor. Towards the end of the trailer, approximately forty seconds before it ends, a previously unseen Mario Kart game is briefly displayed on the new system’s screen.

According to recent announcements, Nintendo plans to disclose additional information about their upcoming console during a Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2nd. For the moment, discussion and speculation around the console’s details will persist, as neither the reveal trailer nor Nintendo’s website offers any specifics regarding the new Mario Kart footage or the name of the latest installment in the series. We may need to wait a few more months for concrete information to surface, but at least the ongoing leaks and rumors can take a temporary break.
