Hidetaka Miyazaki makes decisions about Bloodborne’s future, but he is said to be too busy to work on anything related to the brand

In his 31-year tenure at Sony, where he contributed to creating the first PlayStation, Shuhei Yoshida has now concluded his employment. On the very same day, he engaged in a two-hour discussion on the Kinda Funny Games YouTube channel. During this conversation, a variety of subjects were addressed, one of which was Bloodborne.

Bloodborne’s future depends on Miyazaki

Throughout the conversation, there was a sense of reminiscing about the past. The speaker discussed his professional journey, memories of working alongside Ken Kutaragi on the original PlayStation, travels to different nations, encounters with developers, and his tenure as head of PS Studios. He even mentioned some of his preferred games, such as Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2, and Shadow of the Colossus. Lastly, he hinted at his upcoming ventures focusing on independent video games.

What particularly caught the attention of the players was a part of his remark concerning Bloodborne. Fans of the soulslike genre are especially attuned to any mentions of this title, as it remains exclusive to Sony consoles and occasionally requires updates for optimal performance. Interestingly, Yoshida proposed a theory suggesting that the Japanese company doesn’t interfere with this brand.

Miyazaki-san holds a deep affection for the game Bloodborne, and his creations reflect this. It seems that although he expresses interest, his overwhelming success leaves him with little time. He desires to work on it himself, but due to his busy schedule, he can’t do so. However, he feels strongly against letting others handle it. I believe this is my interpretation. The PlayStation team honors his request and respects his creative control.

However, fans remain doubtful about his statements, since Miyazaki often emphasizes that the ultimate decision regarding the future of Bloodborne lies not with him but exclusively with Sony. Interestingly, he has expressed a desire for the game to be accessible to as many players as possible.

Instead, Bloodborne, a title developed by FromSoftware, happens to be one of his favorites. Given this, it’s plausible that he might not want to give it up for another studio to work on. The studio most likely to take on a potential remake or update is Bluepoint Games, known for the Demon’s Souls Remake, but they are currently focused on their own original project.

It’s important to note that on March 24th of this year, the popular game “Bloodborne” turns 8 years old. Many of its dedicated fans (including myself) are eagerly anticipating some sort of recognition from Sony for this milestone, but it may just be a case of hoping against hope.
